Nice pictures! Thank you.
Our recent 95 degree temperatures have caused early blooming.

Cinda !
My perennial bed is a picking garden designed in cottage style.

My annual garden is a mix of flowers & vegetables. From there I pick dahlia, gladiolus, zinnia, sunflowers, I also have a 100 foot row of just a mix of white flowers.

My attempt at a cottage garden [my shed is the cottage]. Overgrown, stuff too close together, weeds running rampant. I like it.

and the red tree/ bush on either side frames it nicely.

So Kathy ,
Sticking tongue out I see more photos of your garden (above post)
Just what do you do with all the flowers? Do you sell bunches at a farmers market or something?

Seem like overkill for the kitchen table nodding

Cinda Rolling on the floor laughing
Everyone who stops by receives a bouquet.
When I'm out doing errands I bring a few bouquets for the seniors at the assisted living home.
I drop off bouquets at the medical center front desk to brighten their day.
I always take a bouquet with me to the art studio. A different artist takes it home each week.
The perennial garden is probably the most calming places to walk through. Your own garden is your 'happy place' and this time of year invites a moment to breathe and enjoy.

kathy, that is so sweet that you do all that for the seniors, neighbors, medical center, art studio and friends.

I agree that our own garden is our "Happy Place". Yours is beautiful. Many Thumbs up to you kathy!

Thanks for the kind comment. The red tree is a Japanese Maple 'Emperor 1'. I'm trying to make the shed a hangout. I want to add heat [already have a small wood stove] and have to replace the roof [neighbors 80' Norway maple fell on it]. Also hope to add a small greenhouse. At the rate i'm going it will never get done.

Cottage gardening:
To me it has a winding path, points of shade where you can sit, a bird bath/water source, and lots of perennials & annuals, bushes & trees placed in random spots, not in any particular order.

I think you described the ideal cottage garden. Add your favorite beverage and it's a mini paradise.

I think of it as organized chaos, British in nature.

I too believe it had British beginnings as an alternative to the ''formal''gardens .
A place with both ornamental and useful plants
A lot of different plants rather crammed together...perennials ,annuals, shrubs, veggies and herbs
A rather untamed garden that still is pleasing ....even if only to the gardener.
