Smiling These are wild weed here and mostly ignored by us and taken for granted. It was only due to ATP and photographs that while looking at them on a monitor that I realised that they were Salvias. One has been ID'd as Salvia sclarea - Scharlei . The other I am waiting for someone on this forum to ID. Lets see who ID's it.
Marilyn if you go through the following link, while we consider them as weeds you all love them and are quite gaa gaa over them. You know honey bees and hummingbirds seem to love them. Now I am thinking of collecting a few seeds. The ID'd one I believe does not seed according to locals but the other one does and is also used in medicines.

Arif,

Why do y'all consider them weeds? Because there are lots of them growing there?

Link didn't translate, but I looked at the nice photos.

Well if the grow where they are supposed to then they are not weeds but once they take over fields then we start considering them as weeds. That can be one explanation the other can be. We take them for granted because they grow every where.
I have always been close to nature but even then my powers of observation seem lacking. I never gave a close look to the flowers before until now. Its not a obnoxious weed like Lantana or Paper mulberry, just something that has been ignored by some but not by traditional healers. For them it is a valuable herb.
I think I should pay a visit to the database of Tropicos.
Regards,
Arif.

Marilyn now it is your turn. While looking up Salvia I came across something. Why are people smoking it, any idea?

I tip my hat to you. The above two have been ID'd as variations of the same. This one though cannot be called a variation. Look at how the leaves and flower growth pattern is different.

Arif.

I like these whitish fuzzy flowers. The leaves are magnificent, too. Nice photos, congratulations to the photographer.

Hi Arif,
Where is it you live? So many abbreviations have me confused. If I know where you live I can probably id the plant within one week.

Pallie I tip my hat to you. Thank you very much but in the end I did ID them. Now I have forgotten what was it that I ID'd Whistling but it is somewhere in the database, let me find then I will post the name.
As to where I live, I became sick and tired of Earth with all it's turmoils, tensions and intrigues, so I migrated far away from the Solar System Shrug! .
As an aside, not to you but to some Sticking tongue out Sticking tongue out .
