I had a couple of others that were a small shrub type and they disappeared out of my shopping cart at Lazy S's. So the other two plants I just tacked on to existing orders but Bluestone kinda got me on that one because the plant I wanted the most does not ship till the fall. Baptisia Carolina Moonlight. So I went back to Lazy's and went ahead and bought the two things that were left in the cart. The BCM and Salvia greggii 'Desert Blaze'! Drooling Good for me because now I will have two BCM and two beautiful red Salvia's. But no more shopping this year, *Blush* and I really mean it this time.... Red Sprite is wonderful, my favorite Winterberry.

My four o'clock tubers were shipped so they should get here soon. I love to plant four o'clocks from tubers. Even easier than starting seeds.

I haven't ordered any plants this spring, unlike last spring. I figgure I will buy something locally, I always so. And of course I buy my annuals locally. I always sem to have plenty of plants each spring.

I've been trying to get one for a while now. Last year I got a few on sale at Bluestone end of season sale. I got Jim Dandy and two- Berry Nice. This year I am getting Berry Heavy from BSP and Sprite from Niche Gardens. They sent me a nice email today and informed me that Sprite needed a pollinator called Jim Dandy which they happen to carry and would I like them to include one with my order. I thanked her and told her I had one. That was very nice to let me know that! I have bought shrubbery locally and they tell me nothing! I found out online about my Viburnum. Sad

You should really enjoy all those great winterberries. I know I love mine and the birds eat on the red berries during the winter so that by Feb they are all gone.

That will be great, that is what I wanted! Might get a couple more next year but it's Sprites or nothing! I got a pollenator for my Doublefile Viburnum so I might get some berries on that next year. The pollinator is still small but he did make it through the winter. I just need to put some bricks around it before my husband mows it down. Susan,
Have you gotten your Bluestone order yet?
Last week, I was walking around the yard, making note of what survived the winter and what didn't, and realized one of my viburnum pollinators had died. I remembered ordering some from Bluestone a few years ago, but I'm not sure if the dead one came from them. At that time, I was kinda upset at how small they were, but I planted them and they grew just fine. They had really good roots, i remember. This year I went back into their catalog to see if they had the Hollies and Viburnums I need, and they do....and there was that free plant if you spent $75, so of course I did...anyway, I'm looking forward to getting the order this week. I'll remind myself that they'll be small, but they were not expensive, and they WILL grow, especially since I'm getting them now instead of waiting until May for a sale!
Hollies and Winterberries around here run $25-$55 and up, and nobody but nobody has the newer viburnums, sorbaria and Calycanthus.
Most of my nicer shrubs were once babies from Bluestone.
I'm curious to hear what you think of your order. It sounds like you did ok with the late sale ones last year, so maybe I'll get more on the late sale too. Whistling

I do not remember if I gave them a date or not, but most of my stuff should be here by May 6 when I go on vacation. I loved the fall order I got last year because the plants were bigger. But when you plan on ordering late, sometimes they will run out of what you wanted. I got three winterberries for around 7.99 -9.99 each, but they were half price. The regular price was 15.99-18.99.
I first started looking for a 'Sprite' at a local nursery and they were $39.99 each so I did not get them the year before like I wanted and Forestfarm was another option but they wanted 50.00 for shipping on 4. I did not like that either!
This year I finally got a 'Sprite' from Niche Gardens', it was 25.00 but they were the only ones that had it plus the shipping was reasonable. The shrub arrived in a trade gallon pot and was about 20" tall, from floor to top.

The fall shrubs from Bluestone were about 13-15 inches tall. I planted these in the ground and they did well.

This year I took advantage of the 10% off and got a free plant because the order was over 75.00. I am very happy with my order, I got another Winterberry called 'Berry Heavy' , three Hydrangea's, a Hosta, Solomon's seal, Salvia, Baptisia, and a Clematis called 'Pink Fantasy'. Woohoo! The Hydrangea's are going into pots so I will grow them on till fall and my girlfriend will get to pick one for her birthday, which is also my birthday. Green Grin!

I did not know that Bluestone shipped shrubs in the fall! If they have a sale this spring, I'll look for a winterberry. Many times, if I wait for a sale, I find the one i want isn't on the sale and I'm out of luck for the year!
This year I wasn't taking that chance, so that's why I bought on the 10% sale.
Rolling my eyes.

I think they are having a sale right now with the 10% off and the free plant. I just ordered a winterberry. Do they have better sales than this? I did not want to wait because the winterberries seem to disappear quickly at that price. The only time I got 50% off was in the fall, I went crazy! Rolling on the floor laughing

Those are beautiful, I will keep an eye out for them. I was planning on getting more Helleborus in the fall but I need to wait and see how much room I have in the shade garden. The Hostas are not done emerging and I have other shade plants like Heucheras, solomons seal and a few more Hostas coming. If I find an empty spot there will be a Helleborus going in there for sure!

I had the same shade plant concernes when I planted hellebores with hostas and epimediums.I have giant hosta elegans and was concerned about big leaves shading the hellebore all duering the season. I have 3 hellebores planted around it and Solomons Seal comes up with them too.
Get the hellebore you want and stick them anywhere. They are evergreen and survive quite well.
