This image, and a few others, are filed under the intergeneric hybrid 'Ghosty'

Ghost Plant (XGraptosedum 'Ghosty')

when I believe they should be placed under the entry for G. paraguayense

Ghost Plant (Graptopetalum paraguayense)

This is based on the flower alone. 'Ghosty' should make a yellowish flower lacking the red markings of the Grapto parent.

I am assuming the images below are all of the same plant. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

If we need to treat any of these images differently (ie. if they are pictures of a different plant than the one that's shown flowering), please speak up. Otherwise I would like to propose we move them all the entry for G. paraguayense. Sound good? Smiling

The plant doesn't look like paraguayense to me. Looks like some other Graptopetalum species. In fact, one of the photos reminds me of Grapto. 'Superbum'. I'd move it to the generic Graptopetalum entry, if there is one.

Yes, the pics are all the same plant. I believe I confused the nickname "ghost plant" with the cultivar 'Ghosty.' It came from Altman growers via WM. I looked back in my pic archive and I have a pic of the label.

IMO, move it to graptopetalum paraguayense. The problem with a lot of these big nurseries is that they put common names as cultivars. Sighing! Sighing!

I don't see any inconsistency from my plant to other pics of G. paraguayense that are at websites... that should have some degree of accuracy. It's so cumbersome to wade past all of the other pic sources that come up in image searches.

Evan, I appreciate your input to ensure accuracy of the plant database, and thank you for your comments. But without some detail to compare, just saying it looks more like this or that makes it hard to discuss. I'm happy to consider any ID comments you have, if I can see what you are looking at.

Share that pet peeve with you! There are some instances of that on the plant database on this site and various objections of mine are on the record. I don't believe this plant exists:
Purple Heart (Tradescantia pallida 'Purpurea')
or this one:

or this one, represented by only 1 unrealistic pic.:
Tradescantia pallida 'Kartuz Giant'

It's easy to manipulate leaf size, hue, and even from green to purple or purple to green, to a noticeable degree based on culture and exposure. They're just T. pallida in different settings. Nobody ever claimed to have made these cultivars. "Purpurea" is a synonym species name, Setcreasea purpurea. And "purple heart" was always the nickname, at least it was in the old black'n'white houseplant books I had. T. purpurea, common name purple heart.

Baja, if you move the pics, please move all with my name, they are the same plant. The descriptions could use a little tweaking if the flower colors indicated there aren't correct.

Thank you very much x2!

This is a sentiment I've heard before (generally, not applied to Evan)... I have found by going through this process of moving images probably a couple hundred times (not keeping count) and guiding other folks through the process, as the case may be, that the people who originally uploaded the image tend to appreciate my feedback/disagreement about ID more when it is accompanied by some bare bones explanation of whatever feature is the one that convinced me of the name I arrived upon (or the name that could be ruled out) for the plant in question. That helps them connect the dots and understand the differences in a more general way, so it becomes a positive learning experience.

I guess everyone's rushed for time, and I don't mean to prescribe a certain way of doing things, just sharing my observations and what has worked the best for me over time.

For anyone who's not already aware via the home page placement, Evan has put together a very nice illustrated article about the differences between these plants, and it should be useful for reference down the road.
