The dianthus variety in this photo does not look right. Chabaud should have double, frilly flowers and shouldn't be this stout.

I think this is something from the Telstar series

I grew this plant from seed three years ago - that's definitely what the packet said. It's certainly possible that the seeds were mislabeled or there was a cross-pollination. It now has a flower bud for the first time - I am interested to finally see what its flowers look like.

I agree That center green plant is not a dianthus. The blooms on either side are, although not this 'Chabaud Mix' variety as noted.

To clarify: yes, I am referring to the tall green plant in the middle with no flowers. As I mentioned, I grew this plant from seed three years ago, and the packet definitely said the seeds were Carnation 'Chabaud Mix'. I agree that it looks different from all my other dianthus (and I have lots of different varieties). But if it isn't what the seed packet said, then I have absolutely no idea what it is. When it flowers, I'll post more photos and perhaps we can figure it out.

Since it's not a dianthus, I moved it to the bin of unidentified photos rather than delete it so we can keep this thread going for an ID should it bloom.

It's grown another 4-6 inches.

Good call, sedumzz. I take it echinacea are hard to grow from seed? I'm not a fan of them, so I don't know much about them. I'm interested to see what the flowers look like. That darn thing has been sitting around looking boring for three years before it finally got around to blooming for the first time. Ugh.
