My sister in law had this rubber tree, but forgot to water it so it's severely dehydrated. I want to save it, but since it's looking so horrible I'm wondering how to save it. The top of the stems are shrived and soft, but the bottoms are hard. The leaves are still alive. I broke one on accident and it was bleeding white. I did re-pot it yesterday and put new soil in it than gave it a good drink of water. I also have it by the window and have a grow light on it. Anything else I should do to save it?

The leaves just look dusty to me but it's hard to tell.
Hopefully the repotting didn't add additional stress. At this point it may loose all the leaves since they went through the trauma of lack of watering, time will tell if it recovers and the roots can still uptake water and send out new leaves.

Why does everyone think repotting is the answer to every problem? Stressed-out plants don't need any more stress to recuperate from whatever their problem is.

I'm not very experienced with plants, but I like them and wanted to try to save this one. I repotted it because that's what I read online.

Does anyone have any suggestions of how to save it?

Sarakinkel don't worry, common mistake.

Place a sheet of white paper under a leaf and tap the leaf. Do little dark specks drop into the paper?

Importantly: does that pot have drainage how in the bottom?

If it's just a matter of having gotten dehydrated, only time will tell if it's going to survive.

Hi & welcome! Are we sure these stems were fully rooted plants? How long did your sister have this before it shriveled?

At this point, aim for consistency, adding more water before the soil has no moisture left. The leaves look like they will fall off but don't give up. As long as the roots didn't shrivel up completely, new growth should occur eventually.
