I don't have a lot of newer irises like many people on here, but I do love what I have and have had for many many years now. My space is limited and most of the irises from NW growers such as Oregon etc. won't do well for me here in my hot climate. If we get a colder winter I have better bloom. So for many years I just simply saved my money and quit buying new irises, I was throwing my money away. But I do have some from our Texas hybridizer, Tom Burseen. His do well for me. Yesterday I went to his garden (first time in about 15 years). I went there because I knew the convention was in Dallas this year and that he would have a bunch of guest irises. But I ended up not looking at the guests hardly at all. because he had so many beauties of his own that I could choose from. These are the ones that I ordered from him and that I took the time to take pictures of them. It was hot and windy, my mind was blown trying to take it all in I simply didn't take many pictures. Also I will post my favorites from this years bloom.

Dot in Texas

Dewuc Whatic (Do you see what I see) got this one, well I ordered it.

Judges Special, had to have it, it took my breath away.

Tobacco Chew loved the big fat beard

Trumped, he had a row of it in bloom. It got your attention from way across the garden.

I actually ordered five from him, Cranfill's Gap was not blooming. He had very little of it, he said it sells out every year. I found a picture of it online, but the website wouldn't let me copy it.

Blooming this year in my own garden:

Dorothy Parker my namesake iris. I found it in his seedling patch in 1993. Told him that if he ever introduced it to name it after me, then I forgot about it. A couple of years later he asked me to sign a form, I said what for. He said that if I wanted this iris named after me, I had to sign a release form. I signed it.

Dawning, one of the few from Ghio that does well for me. It will always have a place in my garden.

Kid's Clothes one of my favorites from Tom Burseen.

I finally was able to copy the picture of Cranfil's Gap, this is Toms photo from last year. I did buy it from him, he had a small clump.

Beautiful! And I know what you mean about the irises of hybridizers/growers closer to you doing better in your climate. I have ordered so many from the Northwest growers, and about 1/3 of them never even bloom for me. I've found that the ones that do best here in Bakersfield are Joe Ghio's (he's up in the Santa Cruz area) and those by the Suttons who are in Porterville only 65 miles away but are moving up to Idaho in the fall; followed by those by the guys at Superstition further up the San Joaquin Valley; and then those by the Painters up in Napa Valley also do well. But I've pretty much given up on the others. They will usually bloom the first year, but then I have to keep adding rhizomes if I want to see any other blooms in following years.

EXPLICIT has really been a good one here, although it's a pretty small flower in our climate. But such a beauty!

Dot your pictures are so beautiful helps to look at them as it is snowing here once again. I can't wait to see the ones I got from you on the LA bloom here if it ever quits snowing.

If you are lucky to have hybridizers in your climate, by all means specialize in those. It is difficult to have them bloom across a continent. Neat (for us) that Suttons are moving towards cold weather.

More blooms, if you just want to look at pictures.

Baditude another one of Tom Burseens, it's prettier in person.

Beat the Heat, my son's favorite from Tom Burseen. It does really well here making large clumps. But I sold so much from it that I only had two stalks this year. That ain't gonna happen again. Also you can see my new 8 foot tall privacy fence that I had installed this year.

I'm not normally fond of yellow iris but those are knockouts.
