Rita, do you have only 1 tomatillo? They require 2 in order to get pollinated & fruit. They are not self pollinating like their cousin the tomato.

I have grown tomatillos before. Not for many years now but I used to grow them. Skinny sprawly sort of tomato habit type plants that in my opinion are just not well suited to a pot. I think my best bet is just to stick another plant in there with this one. My very local nursery has plants, I will have to pick one up.

So my little golden beet and white turnip seedlings I planted yesterday. Looking good. All perky, none of them faded in sprite of the transplanting.

I have my second crop of radishes planted in back of those two seedling rows, they are already just starting to come up. But I am not sure if those seedlings I put in yesterday are too close together or not. We will see. The rest of this square garden has yard long beans for going up the trellis netting. Then mostly tomatoes on the outside with some peppers.

The square looking from the opposite side as the seedling side.

Hurray! Hurray! My bean seeds came in the mail today that I ordered the other day. These are the climbing yellow French Fillet Variety I ordered. So I planted them already. Now the bean towers will have one tower of burgundy beans and one of yellow. Both climbing French Fillet types.

And I was correct when I thought I had planted 25 of the Blue Lake that I dug up. Only found 23 but today I found the missing two because seedlings popped up. And on the other tower those burgundy bean seedlings are up.

While I was planting beans I also planted new Black Seeded Blue Lake Seeds in a different location. So now on the pole beans I have the Black Seeded Blue Lake, the French Burgundy and Fench Gold beans. I also have red seeded and white seeded both yard long beans planted and Tenderette bush beans. So I think I am good on beans I have planted! Thumbs up Big Grin

I had to put another row of Florida weave on my tomato plants that I am supporting that way just now. They are growing like gangbusters.

Really looking forward to all the new to me varieties I am trying out this year. Of course I am looking forward to my old favorites also.

I have always bought seedlings at my local nursery but last year I thought I might try seeds this year. Bought lots of tomato seeds, still have them. Never wanted to start them in the middle of yucky winter. But anyway, the point of seeds is that you can grow tomato varieties one can not get as seedlings.

One place I found last year and bought seeds was Wild Boar Farms out in California. He has his own introductions and sells seeds. Aparantely does local Farmers markets in his area selling the tomatoes. So when I bought seeds I signed up for the e-mail newsletter.

Got a newsletter afew days ago, they are selling plants. The plants must be pre-ordered for 2014, cost more money any one in their right mind wants to pay and the shipping of 3 day air from California to here across the country costs as much as the plants did. And you can only order the combinations as he has listed. But none of that stopped me. I ordered two of the combo packs. Each has 4 plants so I will be getting 8 plants.

Wild Boar Farms
http://www.wildboarfarms.com/w...

I raved about them last year too on one of my tomato threads.

I bought combo mix 3 and 4 so I will be getting-
Pork Chop
Black & Brown Boar
Blue Gold
Solar Flare
Blue Beauty
Sweet Carneros Pink
AAA Sweet Solano
Berkeley Tie Dye

This is a really big thing for me. I grow tried and true hybrids that have been around for ages, not even heirlooms. So to try these exotic varieties will be quite the thing. But I am very taken by his intros. And now I don't need to worry about having to start tomato seed in the dead of winter.

I already had to get extra creative this year to fit all my tomato plants in that I wanted to plant. I have some of them along in back of the daylily bed that runs along side my driveway.

Here are the Sweet Million plants in back of a row of daylilies.

Look at this. The cavilli zucchini that I started as seeds are now much bigger than the Elite zucchini I bought as seedlings. And both were planted out in their pots at the same time. And the cavilli were much smaller when transplanting. Cavilli first picture, elite second picture.

I have been working on my new veggie bed that I made by relocating some Tall Bearded iris. Yesterday I dug it up and today I raked it some more and I have my rows laid out and measured. The rows go across the 4 foot way. I have room for 8 rows of turnips, 2 of each of my four kinds. 2 rows of golden beets, two rows of kolrabi, two rows of rutabaga. One row of parsnips and one of carrots or I can skip the carrotts and do two rows of parsnips instead. That uses up the room there and believe me I didn't leave extra space.

Tomorrow I will plant the seeds. I can't do much for now but I would like to extend this garden more down into the TB iris section. I figgure if I could relocate three more iris It would be good and give me an extra row or two of veggies. I would like to grow onions but I am too late for onions now anyway.

For now I want to get what I have planted and call it a success. Want to be done with the planting and want seedlings to come up. Will have to wait as the seedlings can't come up until I plant the seeds! Hilarious!

I had to put TWO more rows of Florida Weave on my tomato plants just now. I can't believe how much they are growing. All this rain we have had. It rained yesterday and it is supposed to rain again tomorrow. At this rate my plants will be 10 feet tall by September. Blinking Rolling on the floor laughing Whistling

Took pictures of the porch tomatoes this morning. Those are in cages that a only 48 inches tall. I remember last year they grew to the top of the porch railings then we had a storm and they flopped over some. But they just continued growing.

I am looking at these Texas Tomato cages that are 6 feet tall and you can get extentions to eight feet. I might need these next year for my WILD BOAR INTROS. Take a look on his website where he shows his tomato plants growing. They are giants! Hilarious! But the Texas Cages are very expensive.
