So I went back to the nursery today. Found Beefmaster tomatoes again that looked nice and healthy and bought a six pack so my Beefmasters are back for this year. I really loved this variety last year and was upset to think that I might not have them this year.

I did see a batch of them that must be where I got my orininals that were beat up cruddy looking just like the ones I threw away. But in another section I saw nice ones that I am sure are new stock. So I got those. I also got a six pack of Supersonic to fill my two empty spots. Managed to find a third place to put one so I have three Supersonic plants. So that is all. I have planted all my tomatoes. I have 62 plants all in ground. Glad to be done with the tomato planting.

The nursery had some melon seedlings from Burpee called SUGAR CUBE so I bough a pack of those also. I have seeds of Green Machine and Minn. Midget but going to have these instead of Minn Midget.

IN the next few days I will get my melon and cucumber seeds started. I start them inside in refilled dell packs as they start faster in the warmth. Then I bring them outside as soon as they come up. Can bring them back inside of it gets too cold. But by the time they all come up it will probably be time to plant them out anyway.

Quesstion??? will you thin out your pea plants????

Forgot, had to edit, I'm glad you plant enough to share with all your neighbors. I'm a firm believer in doing whatever makes a person happy. All your hard work last year on your bulbs, has certainly made me happy and my DH too. He loves tulips. I'm quite sure your neighbors have spoken more and been more visiable since youhave all the wonderful produce to share. It's a great way to get to know all. Besides, you never know when you might need to borrow a stronger back for a few mintues and now you should not hesitate to ask?? Have fun, RIta and keep up the good work on your exercise program. You've done great on that too.

Today is a really lovely day here and I am starting lots of seeds.

For cucumbers I just planted Suryo Long, Straight Eight and Camilla.

For melons I planted Avara, Sakata and Green Machine.

Then I also planted Nevada Lettuce (yes I know should have done it earlier) and Zen Greens. Those were direct sown. The Cuks and the melons I start in recycled veggie containers. I keep them inside cause its warmer so they sprout quickly. Then when they come up I put them outside during the day and bring in at night for afew days until I am ready to plant them outside.

I still have my yard long bean seeds to start but they like it warm so I am waiting on them.

So having been warned not to plant the 5 zucchinis that I had thought to plant, I have cut it back to 3. I still have time before they go in ground so even that number can be revised downwards. I did spend some time yesterday watching Y-tube videos on growing zucchini and summer squash which gave me a better idea of what I will be dealing with as I have never grown them before.

So went thru my seeds that I have a collection on and decided on some bush beans. Love string beans but usually plant the pole type. Don't want the pole type this year and I have those seeds. Will be starting them later.

Also I have white acre southern pea seeds comming in the mail as I ordered some yesterday,. Will also plant some of those which uses up the 2 cutback garden spots.

Then I still need to watch some Y-tube videos on growing eggplant as I want to make sure I do that correctly also. My garden should be just awesome this year.

I did plant 3 zucchini today. I put them in pots. Big pots but still those pots can move. They are on the very top part of my driveway lined up. Well, as they grow, the pots can just be pulled apart to allow more space. I decided this was the best solution to the zucchini problem for me.

Yesterday I watched some Y-tube videos on how to grow zucchini and summer squash. I learned what bugs to watch for and I learned about putting the aluminium foil collar around the base of the seedling. So I did that so as to defeat any possible borers. Zucchini should be good to grow.

Later I will look for some Y-tube videos on growing eggplant. I have a feeling I have not allotted enough space for all the eggplants so I really need to learn.

And I planted my ten pepper plants today. So I am slowing working on getting all my veggie seedlings out and in ground.

Checking the tomato seedlings that I have planted out on Monday, they are all looking very good. If it warms up some they will start growing. Those baby pepper plants I put out yesterday have little bloom buds on them already.

Peas are growing extremely well. Onions and broccoli and lettuce seedlings doing great. Radishes sprouting.

Well, don't let the soil get dry and baked. Veggies need moisture.

Well I put up the trellis mesh for the cucumbers and beans. Last year I had this flimsy mesh, the cucumbers broke it and all fell down in August. Fortunatly it was late in the season. But it just couldn't take the weight. This year I put up that flimsy mesh for my beans as they are not heavy and put a nice strong pastic mesh that I got at AM Leonard up for my cukes.

So I am ready to plant as soon as the weather is warm enough.

I forgot to say that I got myself going and I sowed some seed of Baby Bok Choy this morning. Probably really late to get it going but maybe not. Frosts make it bolt, heat makes it bolt. Maybe I can get lucky. I love the taste of Bok Choy and it is a very useful in so many ways green.

Rita, I always plant at least three zucchini. I get poor fertilization if I don't plant enough. One year I only planted one plant, and ended up pollenating it by hand with a q-tip. Not fun - zucchini are prickly! I went Friday and bought my veggie plants. I got one pot of the green zucchini and one of the yellow. Each has three seedlings in.

I was going to try the Beefmaster after hearing you rave about them. But, they only had them in 6 packs and the plants were tiny. I have no one to give the other 5 to. So, I got Park's Whopper for the one hybrid. All the rest were heirloom. Know your not a fan of them. I like pink, green, and purple heirloom tomato flavor best. More mild, i guess. They don't have good disease resistance though.

They also had Juliet, which I remember you remarking on. I did not have Internet connection at the nursery, so could not check what you said about them. I see on your list you planted 4. I didn't get one since I could not remember.

Juli, you did good except I think you should have gotten a Juliet. Maybe next year. I do love Juliets which are a grape shaped tomato but large for grapes. Suggery for instance, which I also got, is a much smaller fruit. Juliets are almost the size of small Romas. Or at least some of them are.

I have had Parks Whoppers in many years including last year but it failed the taste test here so is not back this year. But it is a very poppular tomato so your results could be different. As to the heirlooms I know many folks rave about them. Just not my thing. But everyone should grow what pleases them. You'll have to give us your own taste test results inculding your heirlooms.

I planted three of the zucchini and have the rest so I could still plant more of needed. I have them in big pots so space is not an issue. I will just pull the pots away from each other as they grow and need more space. My zucchini are all common green ones.

Juli, I figgure you plant your zucchini in ground and have more room for veggies than I do.

My cucumber seeds that I started on May 1st have sprouted. Now waiting on the melons.

It has been fun to read about your vege garden this year.
I am just about to start here. First I must harden some of these seedlings off.
Tomatoes and peppers, and will do potatoes in bags.
