I ordered 12 plugs from eBay and have them planted 3/14" pot. So far, they have been exposed to some below freezing temps and seem to be tolerating it well. I'm wondering if they need to be deadheaded or if the new blooms cover the old ones?
Don't know about this particular variety of pansy (and they are very interesting!), but I've never deadheaded my pansies and they just kept blooming. Joanne probably knows more about this, tho.

I'm big on dead heading my normal pansies. Of course I only grow a small amount of them each year so it's not much work. These plugs were really tiny. Only about 1/2 " wide by 2" long, but they are growing well. Think as soon as it warms up, they will really take off. Will post photos. The flowers aren't really large. Maybe 1.5".
Apparently, there are some solid purple ones. I was kind of drooling over those! And it looks like Home Depot may be carrying them. They have a video on their website talking about these new pansies.
I planted this up a few weeks ago. They seem to be growing fast. I just planted them in a cut down black nursery pot because I will need to plant my summer combo in June. Maybe they will survive or the summer in a cool place
I bought some at Home Depot last year that have done well. No deadheading needed. They overwintered and just had their first flower the other day. I wish I knew that they overwintered so well or I would have saved the ones I had in some containers last Fall.
I also got several pot of them last year at HD. They have done well and are blooming very well for the last 8 weeks, No deadheading needed. The only let down I have with these Cool Waves is there is not the wave to them that was so talked about on both HD E-mail sent out last year or on the Cool Wave web sit (about a 30 min viewing). But they really do bloom very nice and all colors are sharp.
Glad to learn about the no need to deadheading Mine are going to to get snowed on for the second time today and don't seem to mind it at all. I may take them out of the pots this winter and try overwintering them in the ground just to see if they make it. Perennial pansies would be great.
I always plant a few pansies in fall. In recent years I used Icicle brand, which always overwintered well. This year I had one called subzero or something like that. They're looking good now.
Pansies always bolt fast when our summer heat arrives. I just yank them and replace with summer annuals.
Must be a lot nastier there in the summer than here. Pansies are about the first thing to bloom here and the last thing to die off. Of course, that's not saying much, considering the length of our growing season!

Ours is usually pretty long. I don't plant out tender stuff like zinnias, coleus, begonia, etc until about mid May. We can get frosts that late, though it's not all that common. Our first frost is usually around mid October I guess. Again, the are exceptions, and it can be earlier. Usually by Halloween nights are pretty cold.
I always plant my pansies in containers and set them out in the flower bed with lantana between them. The pansies poop out late June which is about the time the latana get to growing and take over the space and I may replant the containers with mums for fall.You can see the tiny lantana between the two containers here.
