It is awesome looking, great site to look through. I lost the only 2 I brought with me, missed getting them watered enough. I would love to get another yellow or white one some day.

I might give it a try again in the spring. They will live in the ground here is protected from to much moisture during the winter.

Lynn, I've never been able to overwinter them in the ground where I'm at. What do you do, "in detail", to overwinter them in the ground?

Hi Duane. What part of Western Oregon do you live in?
I live west of Salem about 20 miles.

I put them in an area that tends to stay dry, in fact that area is only good for drought tolerant plants.
I amended the soil in the spot I planted in, so it would hold more moisture, yet still drain well. We get so much rain in the winter and spring.
I also planted them pretty deep. For winter I put a lot of mulch around them. The trunk dies back, but the plant came back for two years from the stub under the mulch.
That is until the dog dug them up. Sad

Lynn, Did they flower when they came back? So, when you amend the soil, how deep do you amend to? I live near Gresham (east Portland).

It seems like it should work for you also Duane.
I amended my clay soil to about 2 feet, with forest compost. They didn't flower because the dog dug them up. I replanted and they made it through another winter, returned in the spring. Then I had my DD two dogs again. Izzy dug the two brugs up for the second year. They did not survive the last digging.

I dug out more lawn and put them in front of the poker lilies. Sorry I don't have a photo of them.
