I agree
I got the same message. I just received my seeds that I had bid on, and have several daylilies coming in May 2023. Not sure what the issue is, I have not had a problem with Yenok personally. Shrug!

But the accounts (seeds and daylilies) are being locked by 5 pm today.

Like Celeste, I'm newer to selling seeds on the LA - this is my third year selling there. I used to sell some seeds on here in the classifieds in the past (and gave away some too). I'm flowerfiend on the LA Smiling I don't have a ton posted there yet, I usually sell on Facebook in the DAYLILY SEED SALES PAGE group periodically from November through January or February and then list more on the LA after that.

Moving it down (updated again) to bump it up ... easier than searching the whole thread.

(Not listing myself, I am a buyer on LA / not a seller. Some of you folks have helped me out, though... special thanks again, seeds are coming up everywhere in the grow room.)

Not sure deleting people from the list is a good idea.
This is not a list of recommended sellers. Just sellers.
If they delete their account and come back as someone else later, we will be none-the-wiser if that original info has gone missing.

For example, Yenok apparently even had a prior account to that one ( La_daylily ) according to this 2019 post:
https://garden.org/thread/view...

It would be nice to know if someone keeps quitting the LA and coming back as someone new every couple years. Having accessible expired account(s) info might also then be useful?

I keep adding the list to my bookmarks and deleting the previous bookmark. I remember Yenok from previous posts and had avoided dealing with him. I was just coming around to thinking things had improved and now he is gone again. So I add a note that he is on the list but banned. I still don't know why he was banned.

I want the dirt on problem sellers and am grateful when people stick their neck out and offer straight feedback, but I hesitate to be the one to give it. To warn about who, for example, sells really rusty daylilies or offers tiny, doomed fans for an inflated price. Not sure about critical feedback in this forum, as there are other venues for it. Dilemma. Shrug! If you can't say nuthin' nice... -versus- good friends don't let their friends.. buy daylilies from bad sellers.

Maybe we need a thread where people can post their projected purchases from hybridizers and request feedback from all who have purchased from them in a personal tmail? Maybe just tmail any negative experiences in private with that hybridizer in those personal posts being all the good experiences are allowed in public?

I have had zero problems with Yenok. He is a great communicator and his plants are large. Buying plants from warmer zone come with the "RUST" risk. If you are living in a warmer zone where rust winter over, you can stick with plants that show some rust resistance or grow something else if you don't want to spray. Sellers that sell small plants and don't advertise as such is despised. I have bought small plants knowing up front what I am getting. I will post a list of other sellers that haven't seen mentioned yet later today.

I agree I, too, have had zero problems with Yenok.

I was asked to remove him from the list because he has been banned from LA, but that is not my personal experience. If he has made mistakes (again, not on my orders) it may simply be confusion on his part, as English is clearly not his native language. And I see folks stating that, when contacted, he immediately corrected the problem. Shrug!

It seems unfortunate that, when he was banned, no reason was given. Confused

I also distrust the glowing positive feedback for some sellers... at one point, I intended to leave negative feedback on one seller... and, basically, the setup with LA does not really permit that. If the seller has corrected the mistake (which took him nearly 2 months) and I have not gone through LA 'arbitration' then the system does not allow you to post a negative comment.

Instead, I blocked the seller's auctions. But wouldn't it have been nicer (for other folks) to just leave a negative...? - Wouldn't it also be nice if the LA showed a rating on those who have been blocked by other members...? (The more times you get blocked, there should be a way of keeping score.)

And, for one reason or another, I have blocked several sellers... one was pricing at premium and shipping undersized plants; another lists all his crosses 'backwards' .... pollen parent first, then pod parent... which is super-misleading. Sure, same parents... but I think he should follow the standard format, we should not need to 'translate' everything in reverse. To top it off, his communication was extremely poor ... I would send a question, he would quickly reply "I'll have to get back to you on that...' (which shows prompt response for any LA system record), but ... in fact... still had not answered the question more than a month later. Thinking

And, may I add: 'read' carefully before you bid! One seller listed a cross as the auction listing, but when I reviewed it, the description below listed a different cross! And two sets of photos, one for the listing, a different set for the description. Sure - he likely mixed up his data and it was likely accidental, but which seeds are you actually bidding on / going to receive?

Sadly, when you can't leave a negative note in feedback... and you really can't leave a positive note... I just don't give feedback at all. But that doesn't help other buyers.

I even had one seller who posted positive feedback for me (yes, I always pay virtually instantly), then insisted I should return the favour and give positive feedback for him... sent me several messages to that effect. I finally told him I would not post feedback until I actually received the seeds! The seeds arrived (weeks after he had said he had shipped... which he told me (3) different times...) and I did receive an extra seed or two in some of the packets. But he was a pain to deal with and I blocked him anyway.

I wish LA would just let us give 'stars' for feedback, 1-5 (or 0 to 10) from poor to outstanding. It would reflect a more accurate rating, I believe.
Life is what happens while you are making other plans.

I want to tread lightly here. A list of LA recommended sellers is fine if it helps you. I understand that buying on the LA in the beginning can be a little overwhelming. Keeping a list like that current will always be an issue.

My advice to anybody new on the Lily Auction…tiny first steps, start small, gain your own personal experience…because that's the one that will be the most valuable. In regards to feedback, and I have said this before…..read it carefully. Yes, it leans on the positive side…thank goodness something in this world does…lol. With the Internet, reputations can be destroyed in an instant. I am not interested in doing public executions of any individual. If a seller's feedback is simple and short, like "nice plant", "thanks", "got seeds" then there is a message in that. If it reads "got way more than I expected", " bonus was better than what I bid on", "best on the LA", etc…then there is a message in that too. If you are a person that is happy getting what you paid for….and that's it….then it will be hard to go wrong. If you, like so many others in daylily land, are looking to be blown away by your purchase, then go with sellers that have that kind of feedback.

I have been a seller on the LA now for over twenty years, and buyer longer than that. I have seen a lot of people come and go over that time. Mike Longo runs a very good house. Even though there are a million places to sell now, I trust him completely and count on his backing.

If you have had a good experience with a seller not on this list, then you should support them. Find them on Facebook or online and buy their product. It would be unfair of you not to based on your positive experience. If you have had a bad experience, then don't buy from them again….that would not be smart. Stay with the ones that fit your personality and needs.

I am NOT comfortable with discussing bad experiences in a public forum. Maybe you are a difficult person to please, maybe the seller had a bad day…or you as a buyer had a bad one. This is supposed to be a fun hobby for most of us. A lot of that depends on us.

Steve

I, like Mike, have had no problems with Yenok, and the only reason I received that message from Mike Longo was because I had sent a message thru the LA to Yenok to confirm my shipping date for seeds. Yenok immediately responded and I received my seeds the next week, and then a week or so later I got that message from Mike Longo.

Yenok emailed me a couple of months ago that he was no longer going to be selling through the LA and indicating that if I wanted to be included in the group he is now selling to I should respond yes to his email. After a couple of weeks I did so, and I've already purchased and received one really nice plant from him and have purchased three more for spring. Since I'm on his list I have received two emails sent to the entire group, listing plants with pictures for sale (usually for spring delivery) for that period of time. So he is still selling and so far from my experience is sending great plants, and if anyone is interested in being included in his group of online customers I believe you can reach him at either of these two email addresses.

[email protected]
[email protected]

The only reason I indicated his name should be dropped from the Lily Auction list of sellers was because he is no longer selling on the LA.

Yes, I am also on Yenok's mailing list. He has some beautiful plants, the only reason I did not have some shipped yet that are paid for is that I am in zone 3, the ground is frozen and we have snow. He will send them in the spring. Thumbs up

As for any sellers / buyers on the LA ... Caveat emptor. (And yes, bonuses are exactly that: a lucky extra.)

But there should be something somewhere between the feeling that 'winning' an auction bid means you actually did 'win' something ... vs. that you outbid someone else or it was just a basic business transaction (paid 'x' amount for 'y' seeds).

I had more fun chatting with some of the very experienced hybridizers (especially those who were so kind as to share their thoughts on the process); and some who, at the bottom of the description, gave a note to what they were looking for when they crossed two daylilies. It generally wasn't necessarily the obvious - instead, maybe they were looking for strong, sturdy scapes or good substance. Their insights were the best 'bonus' I received.

I also bought from Yenok (twice independently this year alone), and love what he sends. His message to me seemed to hint that other bigger sellers on the LA were out to get him, and causing all his problems. A cut-throat business, perhaps. Definitely enough to make me think twice about ever selling anything there. Unfortunately, I do not 'do' Facebook so my most recent purchase from him will be my last unless he ever sets up a real website. Crossing Fingers!
