Seeking advice from anyone who grows this plant. Supposedly it likes full sun to partial shade. In the peak of summer in NY zone 5B, this plant looks terrible for about 6-8 weeks, almost goes into hibernation, losing its foliage. It's planted in a place that gets mid and late afternoon sun, which it seems not to like, at least in the dead of summer. The foliage is now growing back, now that the temps are cooler. I'm thinking they should be moved to a place with some afternoon shade, and wondering if any of you have had a similar experience? Or maybe they need to get better established? This is their first season in the ground. Thanks in advance!

According to Missouri Botanical Garden:
"Grow in average, dry to medium moisture, well-drained soil in full sun to part shade. Appreciates some afternoon shade in the St. Louis area. Tolerates full sun in cool summer areas."

You plant seems to agree with their assessment as you are now seeing it revive in the cooler temperatures so it may appreciate a new location.

Hi Sue, thanks for taking the time to reply! MOBOT is a primary resource for me also. I never know whenever I see remarks about "cool summer" or "hot summer" locations what category my zone 5B falls into! I figured since we are not south, we would be "cool summer" (at least relatively), but of course we are not cool up here in summer, especially this summer...a very hot one, plus a long draught. Thanks for giving me the affirmation on that little voice in my head, which suggests this plant needs to be moved.... and welcome any further thoughts!
