I just started some petunias today. Not many. I will have to thin them out when the time comes, as the seeds are very small.

Sowed today:
Aladdin Red
Multiflora Mix
Climbing petunia
Shock Wave White
Tidal Wave Silver
Superbissima Mix

Evelyn, have you tried Tidal wave before? Are you planning to use container? It's huge.
I am planning to mix e3 Easy Wave, bought pink, blue and white.

I just ordered E3 Easywave Coral seeds. 100 seeds. Very expensive. What will I do with them all?

Rubi ~ You could trade some if them for others that you want, or what others have.

Petunias are very expensive. I usually bought 10 seeds packages different varieties, planning also to sell a few plants to cover some expenses.

My first Oops with petunias. Was found some last year seeds and decided to plant them not on the flat surface, but make a small hole, but still not cover then with soil. Almost no germination.May be seeds were not good already, but most likely they were somehow how ended covered with the soil. Do not do this! Smiling

I had one color with zero percent germination last year. I had three colors from the Prism series. Mixed was 100 germination, yellow was over 90%, and none of the Strawberry Sundae color grew. All were started the same way at somewhat different times in the spring.

Yes, they need to be on top of the soil. Usually they lose germination the following year, much more so pelleted seeds.

That is a beautiful combination in the container. I'm always tempted to try grass in the center of my planters, but the urge to feed the hummingbirds overtakes my aesthetic senses and I end up using a taller salvia or cuphea in the center. One of these days though...

I planted 26 EasyWave E3 on Mar. 13. On the 19th, I saw the first seed popped out a root, and as of this morning, germination is 26 for 26!

I had some seeds from last year that I started about a month ago. They were pelleted Prism petunias. Only 11 of 20 germinated, and many of the plants didn't thrive or survive. I only have 4 of those plants growing now. To be fair, I do have my good grow light on the new seeds, and many of the previous seeds didn't get enough light, but the drop off from fresh seeds to one year old is considerable.

Rubi ~ It has been my experience that pelleted seeds need to be used the same year as purchased. I have tried and they just don't last very long. I have very old un-pelleted seeds that have germinated to my amazement. Some weren't even in sealed packets. I hate to waste money (and time) and now that I know, I will just toss them. And if I receive any more pelleted seeds, I will just sow them all, or give the extras to someone who can use them right away. Lesson learned!

I have transplanted my petunias in larger pots and fertilized them. Here's is about 2/3 of total quantity.
