One thing I love about these plants is you can take cuttings when they have buds and the buds will still open. See my little 'Peridott' and 'Topaz' in my log planter. These cuttings were made two days ago.

I hadn't thought to take cuttings this season but maybe I will from my 'Moonstone' since it is such a compact grower so far. The 'White Nugget' seems to be compact grower too so far, another one in my semp bed. (Don't think I didn't notice your nice semp with the offsets. Smiling )

All of the Jewel of Desert series seems to be pretty compact to me. They are very easy to maintain in a certain size too. If you think they are too wide or bushy, you can just pinch off pieces and put them some place else. I took about 50 cuttings of 'Lavender Ice' and Ashtonii 'Blut' today because they are so beautiful that I want them in a bigger area. They are by far the most impressive as far as size of bloom and coverage are concerned. I'm very impressed with them. I am mixing them up in pots together so I can plant them and be sure to have both mixed together really well.. I have about a six foot section that I am going to edge with them. All of the plants there are purple or colors that go well with those two. Hurray!

If the ones I got do well I will get the rest of the series. Right now Santa Rosa is sold out of most of them.

I like my 'Fire Spinner' but it doesn't bloom as well as my other plants. The other plants are much more impressive. My 'Blut' and 'Lavender Ice' are still going strong!

I picked up Ruby and Garnet today while shopping for some annuals for my mothers house. I was going to wait till next season to see how the ones I already bought did , but then I saw those colors and could not wait. I think I will try Cactus soil this time and see how that goes.

Sounds good. You could add some chicken grit too. If your plants don't return, I could send you some rooted cuttings.

Thanks, I hope i do not need to. But if they do well maybe we could trade for some I have not found around here.
If I can get enough cuttings from my own next year I would like to make a container like this one. http://www.ballpublishing.com/...

I've been rooting cuttings to make a mixed pot like that. I don't have 'Rosequartz' yet so I lack the pink in the photo. I did purchase another white variety yesterday called 'Osberg.' It's supposed to spread good. I will put it near Lavender Ice. These are so much fun to watch grow. There is just something special about them.
