Hi Becky,
You're welcome! Greg's location is given on the LA as Winston-Salem, N.C. The USDA zone for there says 7b.
I usually figure that zone 7 is close enough to my zone 6 that daylilies doing well there will probably do well for me. That's not guaranteed of course, and seedlings will probably be variable. I think that would be true of seedlings even of cultivars that are growing well in my garden. At the price of seeds I am willing to take the gamble.
I don't usually put a lot of weight on foliage habit because there are daylilies of all types growing well here. Where you are in Florida though you probably do want evergreen or at least almost so.
I use the daylily database here on NGA to look up the parents of crosses I'm considering. The photos posted by our members are really valuable in seeing how a daylily looks in a variety of gardens. The "child plants" link is helpful to see what kinds of seedlings have been selected and named from it.
There are not always a lot of photos or child plants. The ones that are there are a great help. I hope next year I can take pics of a lot of ours to post! This summer was frustrating because of being immobilized by my broken ankle.
Pat
