I've had my plant list public and now would like to make it private.

I don't know how to make my plant list private.

What is each step to doing it?

Thanks!

Hi Marilyn. I think that if you go to the "Manage your own list" view, and look on the right hand side of the screen, there's a link to "Manage Categories." On that screen there's the option to change privacy settings. That may be what you're looking for.

I think you would use that to make individual categories private. Not the entire list.

Yes, you would have to edit each individual category and change the privacy setting. Since you have a ton of categories, that may take some time. Blinking

I was thinking of doing more categories but made a Perennials one as well as Trees and Shrubs and that covers a lot of plants. I only made new categories if I had a lot of one type of plant. Smiling

When I go to my list, do I click on the edit button? I did but that doesn't change it to private view.

I still don't know how to do it. Crying Blinking *Blush*

Good idea! Thumbs up

You probably don't have Annuals there in CA, so everything would be Perennials there.

No, you have to go to the "Manage Categories" link on the "Manage your own list" page. That's where the privacy settings are. That's so you can, if you want, make some categories public and others private.

What if you decide to make them all private?

Here's my list http://garden.org/lists/manage...

I still can't figure out how to do it. *Blush*

What do I click on first, then second etc....?

Ah! Took me a minute or two to figure it out! You go to the "Manage Categories" link, then click on the little pencil "edit" button for each category. That will give you the option of changing the privacy settiing for each category. I think. If I got it right. Rolling my eyes.

Hmmmm. Give me a minute. Let me play with my list for a bit. I do think it would be nice if Dave could give us the option of making the entire list private, tho. Heh heh, "nudge!"

Ok. I just made my category "Clematis" private. I went to the Manage categories link, changed the Clematis category to "Private," saved the change, and then went to the View Your List link. Clematis no longer show up in my public view.

He should. I have my entire list public so it shouldn't be a problem to change the whole list to private.

Big Grin

Ok. One more time.

One step at a time.

First, click on the Lists tab at the top of your home page.
Next, click on the “Manage your own list” link.
On the right hand side of the screen, you'll see a list of the categories you've created for your own list. If you have a lot of categories, you may have to scroll down; at the end of your list of categories, you'll see a link to “Manage categories.” Click on that.
That will bring up a screen that says “Managing your categories” in bold print. Next to each category is a little icon with a pencil for editing and one with a trash can for deleting. Click on the pencil icon for the first category.
That will bring up a screen for Editing a category, that gives you the option of either editing the category name or changing the privacy setting. Change the setting (using the pull down menu) to “private and only visible to me.”
Then click on the green box “Save your change.”

Now, if you go back to the Lists tab and look at the public view of your list (the “View your list” link), the items in that category should no longer be visible.

It sounds more complicated than it is. But you'll have to do it for each category.
