Oh, Happy Birthday! I'm just now hearing this news. Hope it's been a good one. I'm in AL, in Opp, about 80 miles W of Dothan.

I saw hundreds of frost-bitten Sago fronds today. It takes a few days for them to turn white. Chopping those off when that happens is a chore. I've seen some using chainsaws. The new growth is always awesome though.

Sorry you lost your begonias Ginger, how cold did it get there? Certainly not a time to lose power, they used to do brown outs around here back in the 80's when we dipped into the 20's too long to conserve energy, we lived in Orlando back then.
I left all my begonias out, they all look fine, in fact the Rex look happier than they did all summer long. Of course we didn't go below 30 here.

I'm glad I took the time to cover my hummingbird plants, last evening saw my two hummers and they have flowers to sip on. I am actually surprised how little damage there is. My passion vine (not protected) still green and has flowers, last year when we went to 32 for eight hours it was toasted...go figure.

I am surprised my blooming bougainvillea that I didn't cover has no damage at all. Must have helped that it was at the backyard with the pond and gets the morning sun.

I think one thing that made a difference on this cold snap here, was no frost, not one morning did we have frost.

Sherri...I really don't know how low our temps did get, but think it was more the length of time. We did get hard freeze.
Uncovered the 2 pots left out yesterday...aloe is mush and cereus is very sad.

I've noticed that unless the temperatures actually fall below freezing, the Bougainvilleas have no trouble.

It is a pain in the rear-end to cover and uncover plants, but in the long run (for me anyway) it is worth the hassle. All my covered plants still look good. Anything not covered got frost burned or turned mushy. I didn't bring as many inside as in past years. I guess that is because most are in the ground now. The only plants I put in my garage were my desert rose plants.

I covered my bromeliads and so glad I did. On one plant, part of a leaf was sticking out from under the sheet. It turned an ugly, mushy brown.

It really is! I still have my desert roses in the camping tent. But I opened itbyto let light and fresh air get inside. I will be busy planting back all the succulents I uprooted

Gigi - I covered all my succulents and they look fine. My backyard looked like sheet city, literally! I had plants covered in the front yard, too. Nothing died or had damage that was covered. I covered my 10 rectangular planter boxes with pillow cases which covered perfectly and the flowers are going strong even after being covered for 3 days! I know my neighbors must have thought I was crazy, but they now get to continue to see bright yellow, orange, and even pink blooms, instead of dead plants.

I can relate about neighbors thinking 🤔 I am a little off

Between the 2 hurricanes and the cold snap my garden has been through a lot. There is so much damage, but I'm surprised how well some plants are doing. While cleaning up I noticed the ceropegia has bloomed, so that was a pleasant surprise!
