That's interesting the Petrosedum isn't doing well. It usually does better for me then some of the other types. I do need to go check on my sedum chocolate ball. Sometimes over the winter the tips fall off but the seem to root easy even in the cold. Hylotelephium, expically the common green is impossible to kill. I feel like if it had any root at all before winter it will be fine. Gosh I'm ready for spring!

LOL, yea the common Hylos are hard to kill. Some of the sunsparklers have been less hardy for me. Steel the Show is mushy.

Oh, the non-tender Petrosedum are fine. This is mostly the rupestre group (Blue Bird, Blue Spruce, Angelina....). The ones that are doing bad are the tender ones, mostly the mexicana group and similar ones (lemon ball, yellow bouquet)...... Wait, aren't those still Sedum? Can't remember.

Chocolate ball is fine for me right now; just dehydrated.

I've been growing Sedum for a long time, usually they do fine, but I think the combonation of really dry weather and the cold snap kinda freeze-dried them. We are having a few days with no hard frost, I might water some of the really dehydrated ones?

Do you grow the purple types of Hylos? I really love those but they are aphid magnets here. I'm going to have to figure that out. Lol. I think that is what happened to some of my semps freeze-dried! Haha! My semps definitely looked better after a good water. I'd probably water the sedum if they are dry.

I agree regarding Hylos and aphids. I think I will quit growing them except for maybe Autumn Joy. That's the only one that doesn't splay out. Alcohol helps but I don't want to keep messing around with that. The bees love Autumn Joy.

Chocolate Ball never lasted for me; died a few times over. It seems to be off the market around here.

It seems some of the sedums that aren't very hardy reseed and come back that way.

Like would any kind of composted bark work? Where do you get that?

Here are some examples for you Daniel.

Many of these can be mixed with coarse sand, much cheaper than bagged potting mixes. And doesn't contain all of that added fertilizer and peat.

Daniel,

I agree with you on Royanum. I really like it. At first, I thought was rather so-so but it has grown on me (bad pun). It is a steady grower with nice form and color, forming beautiful colonies.

Lynn! You are a lifesaver! So I'll get the compost and pumice. Also chicken grit for the top dressing. Would you add anything else? I hope I get to this soon, it's already looking like a busy year!

John, I can only dream of nice big Royanum colonies!

Daniel, I get a forest compost mix from my local landscape supplier, same as Kevin does. It is wonderful to visit them and see what is available. Just don't get anything with a lot of fertilizer added.
