If Anyone Uses The Moon And It's Cycles To Help Garden By, This Friday The 6th In The Eastern Night Sky, A Full "Wolf Micro Moon" Will Rise Next To And Left Of The Constellation Orion The Hunter. A Full Moon Occuring While It's At It's Furthest Point From Earth (Apogee) 251,910 Miles Away, Is Called A Micro Moon. When It Occurs At it's Closest Point (Perigee) 225,291 Miles Away, It's Called A Super Moon. Supermoons appear about 14.5% wider and 25% brighter in the sky than micromoons.

When I let my dogs out at 4 this morning the moon was in the western sky, Extremely bright although there were some stringy clouds passing in front of it-the moon was blazing. And full. I didn't get to see it before that unfortunately-would liked to have seen Orion. We've been having spotty rain showers all week so the skies have been overcast and star gazing has been frustrating. Thanks for the info!

I hope I will get a chance to see the full moon - it has been continually cloudy here now for what seems like forever! (Normally this would be what I fondly call the "full freeze-your-a$$ off" moon, but the weather has been uncommonly mild and it appears that will be continuing for a while, probably due to the constant cloud cover and the open water in nearby Lake Michigan.)

Duane, do you garden "by the moon" ? I've toyed with it a bit but never consistently enough to be able to tell if it was making any difference.

Naw I have went by old sayings though. Like my Daddy always said that when White Oak leaves start growing in Spring and get as big as a squirrels ear frosts are over and you can safely plant corn and beans. That is an old Native American tradition. I home can things by the moon signs though. Like sauerkraut its best if made when the signs are in the head or shoulders. If ya make it when the signs are in the bowels it will spoil every time seems like.

the last big moon I saw was in the fall and it was huge. golden and very low in the sky. It had an aura around it. I had to walk own the street to get a good look at it because roof tops were in the way. It was amazing. I'm not sure if this was the Harvest moon or the Hunters moon but it was spectacular. The Farmers Almanac usually has planting times and dates according to where you live and allot of their info is based on "old" native customs. Plus they have the star and moon cycles chart at the beginning of every month which I read.

Surprisingly we did get a chance to see the full moon last night, despite a thick cloud cover! Smiling

Hard to complain about the clouds here because that is probably what is keeping our temps as mild as they have been... should be much colder here right now, but we are basically in the high 20s and 30s.

I didn't catch it last night, but the moon was absolutely shockingly beautiful for the 2 nights before that. What I did catch last night was a stellar sunset looking back over Mobile area as we were on our way back home from Biloxi. It was so incredible, vivid flaming orange and purple ripples, and so demanding of attention, one of those "best sunset of the year" sunsets. I could only see it in the mirrors but that was better than not seeing it at all.

I agree and I wish I had seen it. The other evening-guess last week the moon was a nice pronounced cresent shape and very bright. When I was leaving work I looked at it for a few minutes and I could see his face within the crescent. He was smiling.

This months full moon is called the Worm Moon. I got a preview this morning on the way to work. It was huge and low and orange. Sometimes the orange is the Harvest Moon and or the Hunters Moon. The last harvest moon I saw was dark gold and low in the sky. The Worm Moon is named that because earth worms start to come out after winter is leaving. Full moon is the 7th.

What was so weird about this moon was when I let the dogs out at 4am the moon was white. It was in the west. By the time I was on my way to work it was low, large and orange. That was at 6am. I was surprised! It was hanging over the Philadelphia sky line and the city just glowed. Pretty awesome.

Watching it rise tonight, darn thing is shaped like a throat lozenge...too bright and too many pines to spot Orion tho.
So many roads to take, choices to make, and laughs to share!
