The banner looks great! The Sinningia I will be planting outside..along with many other bulbs I put in the ground. I'm weary with over wintering any plants. I'm leaving the Hymenocallis, Cannas, and Callas in the ground. Only the Strong will Survive!! Hilarious!

Digging the tuberose bulbs works best for me because if I leave them in ground they will multiply like rabbits and overcrowd themselves with lots of green foliage and for the next summers, i.e. their blooming season, they send few and sometime NO flowering stalks at all... they are extremely drought tolerant... some years back I had them in larger pots, when we shifted to our new place I left the pots behind and after four months of hot dry summer and complete neglect, the time we sold the apartment , they were nearly all green....!!

In my experience, nearly all bulbous plants need some rest and dormancy period to bloom well....

BTW the banner looks great..!!

Neal, I never pulled them so they spent the winter out in the cold under pine straw. Izhar is right in the fact that they have multiplied tremendously and are all green with no blooms this year. In fact, I never pulled any of my bulbs last year and they all came back except for some hostas. If you want I can pull them and send them to you. You never know until you try. I grew them in coir/miracle grow moisture control mix.

The daffodils knew you were coming and hid. Hilarious!

Kim, I was to ill to pull anything last winter and all but my brugs stayed outside in the freezing temps. My cannas and calla lilies survived to my surprise. Of course it gets a lot colder and for a longer period of time in Pennsylvania than here in south Georgia. Hilarious!

Yeah I'm sure it gets a lot colder in PA. I've lived in California and Illinois. Zone 5 is A HUGE difference then where I live now. Early this year there was 3 feet of snow on the ground and it was 30 degrees. It snows here and that's why some people think it's really cold. It's nowhere near as cold as it was living in Illinois. I remember when I was moving there my Grandfather said, 'Are you sure..it's really cold there?". I didn't understand because it snowed in PA/NJ where I was from. But living there Truly was a whole different story. Hilarious! It was Coldddddddd!

Ah the elusive Tuberose. It might be time for me to try them again. When I first got into gardening, they were on my 'must have' list. Since then I've tried them a couple of times, with no luck. But I'm older and wiser now, so maybe it's time to be foolish again and give them another chance ;-) I do wonder if it's humidity... we surely get plenty of that here!

Never had one bloom, no idea how long it takes Sad Some things can take forever though! I had a vine developed buds near the beginning of summer that did not open until early Sept, and they were tiny blooms, too!
