I'm not sure what you need to do but I'll move this over to the Site Talk Forum where I'm sure an admin. will be able to help.

Are you saying on Email? Because if so, here is what you do. Go into settings, and turn off email notifications. Here are photos to help.

In the last photo, just switch the notifications off. As you can see, I have my on. So just switch yours off if they are on.

Prabhi, what exactly do you mean by "system messages"?

Abigail's instructions apply only if you posted in Ask a Question of if you're engaged in tree mail correspondence.

I'm guessing Prabhi means these: https://garden.org/users/sysms...

I'm not sure if there's a way to hide these.

Thumbs and acorn notifications? On my page, they are already hidden unless I click to open that page. Hm. Yeah, I've never tried to delete them. I'd imagine some long-timers must have 1000s of them piled up!

I think it's from everyone checking your beautiful orchid pics you posted. Each pic in your data base has been checked by members several times. It's similar to a like from every check . This will add up as the red bell lets you know your pics have been seen by other members and appreciated with checks represented in the box by each orchid entry in your data base.

Go to your profile …then check on pics in your data base…
Then you see your plants listed and pics in your data base under images. See the boxs with numbers in it next to your entry pics. They are from members that checked your pics as a like when you entered the flowers.

All your beautiful flower pics have been widely accepted by everyone checking your pics posted , which all end up in your data base . The numbers in the boxes lets you know how many members have seen your pics as entries to your data base.

This is due to people giving you thumbs-up on your posts and photos. Unfortunately there is no way to disable this feature.

Prabhi, I tagged your name yesterday, to tell you that we probably have an id for your Orchid. That would have also shown up in your list of thumbs up, acorns given and such. Hopefully you saw that?

You don't have to read them if you don't want to. I receive hundreds every week, I make a quick scan and only click on one if I was tagged on a post. Otherwise once you open the page, you can immediately click back on your home page and those notifications are now cleared.

I don't mind seeing the messages page list when the red bell is clicked. It is just indicating the name of someone who read a post and which post it pertains to. One can just click the red bell and after the page opens you just click the home symbol in the left corner to get back to your home page and go from there. You definitely don't have to go back into each entry unless you want to. It makes me happy when the bell symbol is red because I then know that people have read my posts -- it is better than not having anyone show interest in one's comments.

Prabhi, the notifications inform you when someone has clicked "like" on something you added to the site, if a pic has uploaded successfully, if you received an acorn for uploading a pic, if a member sends an acorn to you, and if someone has tagged your name in a discussion. You are not required to look at them if you are not interested in these things.

I always check them to see if I have been tagged in a discussion I was not already in, and so I will know if acorns have been sent to me so I can say thank you. I would feel rude if I did not send a quick note to say thank you to someone who sent an acorn.
