I have purchased from several but looking to add some newer cultivars that will not break my budget.
I LOVE Schreiner's and have even visited during bloom time, which was awesome, but they are pretty pricey. I would love to find some new sources. Thank you!

I started out for many years buying from Schreiner's, since I have been growing iris since the 80's.I still buy a few every year.
Now my favorite would be Mid-America.I buy a lot from them.
I also buy a few from Sutton's,Keppel himself, and Mariposa Iris.
Several years ago I bought from Blue J's.They have a lot of older iris as well as some from several years ago. They are affordable.Wide selection.I might also mention Iris Sisters and Superstition.
There are a lot of good vendors.

You are in my home state so they should do well. Do you fertilize in the Spring? What with?
Mama, you are not to far away either.

Irises
If we talk about USA, I bought irises mainly in Mid-America Garden. Firstly, they had the cheapest delivery to Russia. And secondly, I like Thomas Johnson's planting material (although I can't say anything bad about other nurseries where I bought irises in the USA). However, I have not been buying anything for the last 2 years due to lack of finances

Teresa,
I fertilize twice a year with bone meal, towards the third week or so in March and in July after bloom.
I have 500 or so TB'S so it takes awhile, and a 40lb.bag of bone meal.Maybe more this year ,since I added a lot of new iris last year.

I introduce my medians through Winterberry Iris. Their growing area was great for iris when I lived in MA. I have brought for our iris club from them as well as Mid-America, Keith Keppel & Sutton. Also Aitken's Salmon Creek Garden. Scheiners also has lovely plants, but for my hybridizing use, the fact that one has to wait to find out the background is not helpful. They don't post parentage. But they are posting more SDBs from former years.

irisarian, glad to see you also posted/support Aitken's Iris gardens in Salmon Creek.
They are less than a mile away and we always enjoy visits with them both. They got our son interested in Orchids. We also travel down to OR around Mother's Day to photograph the iris and gardens down there at Scheiners. Two great places to visit if folks are on the west coast.

I have received the healthiest plants from Stout Gardens in OK. The roots are solid, clean and the leaves are green, and smell fresh. It takes about 10 days before the greenery starts to grow. The order from Schreiners last summer was disappointing. The tops were mostly brown and dried out. Very little green. I was surprised as their irises are somewhat pricey. One appeared to have died and the others didn't show any greenery growth for about a month and a half. C and T Iris Patch had some of the Schriener irises I was interested in and at a cheaper price at times. I will check them out again in 2023. I have not ordered from Mid America but they have quite a few nice ones. Nola's in California was good. Iris I received from Echo were ok.

I've tried a variety of nurseries, but of them all, Mid America and Schreiners have been best. Last year I tried Winterberry for the first time, trying to get some hard-to-find ones including a couple from Cayeux. None of what I ordered was in their catalog, but, nevertheless, they had a number of the ones I had been seeking. I was so pleased! And the prices and shipping were low in comparison to other nurseries. What's more the rhizomes were very fresh. Hopefully they will bloom for me for the first time this spring and I can verify the correctness of rhizomes received.

Winterberry is closer to your climate, of course. All places mentioned really care for their plants. Rocky Top in TN supports some of the smaller h ybridizers & are experienced as well.

For your climate I would also suggest Dancing Dragons Iris that is in Tennessee. Kim has lots of varieties at affordable prices.

I have had great luck with Keith Keppel's irises, and Superstition as well as many of those mentioned above. I quit using Schreiners years ago, as I don't like the dried up rhizomes they were sending me, sometimes miss named, unfriendly customer service and at a premium price. Maybe others have had better luck then me.

Tom,
I always got the healthiest fatest rhizomes from Schriener's until the last 2 seasons. The older ladies who worked in the office were really nice ,though pretty straightforward in dealing with you.I understand from them they had worked in the office for many years. The young girl they have now answering the phone is very friendly.
They have always replaced iris that did not live the first year,no questions asked.I never lost but a few of theirs.
And,yes, some over the years were mislabeled ,but they rectified their mistake if I sent them a picture of what was blooming.
They are more pricey, but I thought it was because they guaranteed their iris.
I Don't buy much from them anymore, but I do a little, and they have Ghio's new intro's.I have bought from them since 1989.

I too stopped ordering from Schreiner's, but mainly because I kept getting mislabeled rhizomes.. They were also smaller and less fresh than those I've received from Keppel, Superstition, Mid America, Iris Sisters, and Sutton. I'm sad that Joe chose Schreiner's to carry his Iris, but I understand why. He gets broader exposure.. and I'm happy for that..

Schreiner's did replace the misnamed irises, but the ones that died they wouldn't for me. All of the other vendors have replaced irises that died, no questions asked.
