Bees/ wasps are particularly aggressive on warm spring days before many plants are blooming. I just ignore them and never swat at them. I move slowly when I hear/see one buzzing nearby, but keep on working and don't panic. The last time I was stung came on 2 consecutive days. Our front hose bib is behind a yew hedge. As I was reaching through the hedge to close the spigot I was stung on the thumb by a paper wasp. Thinking it a fluke, when I went to open the valve next day, I was stung again right on top of the first swelling. Duh!
I spend a LOT of time in the gardens and run into buzzy critters every day it's warm enough, and believe as long as you don't step on a yellow jacket's nest or swat at the fearsome flyers, and you do stop moving until they settle down and then move only slowly, it's unlikely you'll get stung. I don't move even if they land on clothing. If they land on a hand, I shake the hand very gently in a slow-mo shooing motion so they fly off on their own - and do the same when they're buzzing around my head.
