Cattaleyafan, your peony has a lot of buds for just being planted in 2021. I can't wait to see blooms.

I love the Giant Snowflakes. They last a long time in the garden.

Oscar, your hellebore arrangement is lovely! And that's a cute joke.

Jasmin, that's good you're reserving a spot for YT! Hopefully you will find it soon.

Ruthanna. I can't wait to see Pink Pompadour.

Mary, here is the first bloom of my Heleborus seedling Smiling I am pleasantly surprised. The myth that hellebores produced mostly ugly seedlings is busted. Or is it just beginner's luck I like the lightness of the bloom, a kind of "innocencia" and porcelain-like qualities of the bloom. This one is a keeper. Hopefully, it will grow in a healthy bunch to be a nice prelude for Colourful Butterly, which is just behind it Crossing Fingers!

Here are the parents Smiling There are many more of their seedlings around. The Forsythia bushes might look pretty underplanted by Hellebores. Will work on this Smiling Also happy to share some of the seedlings and seeds Smiling

Thanks LG. I received 20 peony from Wild in April 2021. They all bloomed last year with a few blooms. Hope for more this year. Crossing Fingers!

Oscar, wonderful collection of hellebores! Lovey dubby Lovey dubby You have so many nice ones.

Jasmin, your hellebore seedling flower is beautiful! It looks even better than the parents, IMHO. I love that "porcelain-like quality" about it.

Ruthanna, I too am looking forward to see your Pink Pompadour. It has an interesting form.

My lilacs, epidemium, bleeding hearts, and tulips are blooming now.

Beautiful seedling, Jasmin.

Love seeing your blooms Karen.

Next weekend we are going to be cold again. This spring is really difficult. I hope I don't lose all my Hosta leaves again!

Jasmin, what a gorgeous hellebore seedling. It's always a special treat to have some plant you actually want drop seeds instead of all of the weeds we have to pull out, right? What a special treat for you. Thanks for sharing.

I looked at that peony site in Canada and found some of their prices rather high for some that I had bought in the US. Was looking for a specific Japanese TP but no luck. Early Canary opened this afternoon. Planted last October. As with most new ones, the bloom is very much a single, but will build out in the next year or so.

Thank you all. Yes, that Helleborus seedling was a pleasant surprise yesterday Smiling And yes, it is nice to have seedlings that you don't have to weed. I am surprised by how well the parent plants tolerate shade. They thrive in the shade below Forsythia bushes. I'll transplant the other seedlings around the Forsythia bushes. They will take care of all weeds. It will take a couple of years, but it will be worth it. I don't remember when I noticed this little Porcelain seedling; two years ago or last year. But I suspect it takes about three years for a Helleborus orientalis to start blooming, which is a little bit better than waiting for TP seedlings to start blooming Smiling

Karen, I love your tulips Lovey dubby and colour combinations.

LG, I am so sorry about your weather. I hope it does not dip down too low. I have a daylily friend in TN and she is experiencing the same issues with her daylilies due to the dipping and spiking of temps in the last couple of months. Growths were stunted and/or damaged. This spring weather is so crazy. It's going to be in the mid 80's for my area this Friday.

Mary, Early Canary is lovely! Its color and form is really pretty. I am sure the blooms are going to be fantastic next year.

Jasmin, thanks! I love the color of your hellebore seedling. That's the shade of pink that I love. Did you hand pollinate the parents?

The new side bed is coming along nicely. I put it in in the fall of 2021. Not one peony bud last year but all but one bush has buds this year! Very excited!

Thanks everyone! The grape vines are my husband's project, his first time venturing beyond grass. I want to turn the area between the trellis and the fence into another flower bed eventually. This is the first year the garden is starting to fill out to where I can take pictures of the beds and not just individual plants.

Caroline, springs are always exciting Smiling What types of tulips do you have? Are they naturalized? By the way, could you have tree peonies in Calgary? What else could you grow with peonies? I am always looking for winter-hardy plants that can grow around peonies. Because of wild temperature swings, it's good to grow proven winter-hardy plants.

The tulips are mostly the Darwin hybrids.
I try different kinds every year.
I have tried tree peonies without success.
I am trying again as I now know more.
Veronica grows with some of the peonies.
Delphiniums too……trying for shorter ones among peonies.
And sometimes I just scatter wildflower seeds.

Is this planted correctly. I have little experience with itoh peonies. I had it for 3-4 years and no blooms. Moved once early on. I'm starting to think it may not be planted deep enough.
