I'm looking for names of iris that have beards that are not orange or yellow. I like the dark beards, purple, rose ect, and iris that have a beard the same color as the falls.
I have "Whispering" and it is a rose color with a dark beard. I really like it. But I have not found many like that, most have orange or yellow which I find too garish sometimes. Any suggestions?

You might want to look through the treads of pictures posted on here, I'm sure you will find many that suit your taste. You have several months before you have to plant, so you have time. You of course can go to the list of vendors listed above and go shopping. I always like to look at various pictures besides the vendor pictures before I add them to my "Wish List", as some of the pictures can fool you with color. The Data base on here is a good source of pictures for you as well. Good luck.

Yes but just window shopping such a large number at a time could be dangerous!

Fun for me to see Whispering. You may know this but it was introduced by the late Melba Hamblen, She created many lovely irises, often with startling beards. I remember how excited I was to see a pink with a blue beard for the first time in her seedling rows. A visit to her garden was a treat because she grew quest plants from all the top hybridizers.

I think that is where I got Whispering if I remember right. I will check them out again. Thanks!
