This year I planted green beans that were a variety of climbing beans. I'm a little confused though. When they grew they put out 2 shoots of true leafs. So about 6 big leafs total, then the stem got very long and rapped around a trellis. But.. that's it. Ever since that, they're growing very slowly, I see some more leaf nodes forming from said stem but shouldn't they be flowering by now? My other variety would have just been tiny and made a bunch of beans by now. My snow peas which are right next to them are about triple the size and begging to bloom, should I switch those green beans to a blooming fertilizer? Right now they're on Grow Big.

Lots of variation in variety. Which one did you plant? Some pole beans have a relatively long DTM. If you still have snow peas growing it may be too cold for them. Beans are not heavy feeders so I doubt that fertility is the problem.

As Dillard said, there is a lot of variation with beans; I don't think it's too cold for yours at this point, but I would lay off the fertilizer. I'm obviously farther north than you are, but for comparison I usually plant my bean seeds at the beginning of June, and don't start harvesting my main crop of pole beans until early August. Just keep them watered and they will likely grow and flower in their own time; if you want earlier beans, plant some bush beans.

Peas and beans are an entirely different story from each other and like different conditions.

Peas like it cool and moist, while beans like it warm to hot and somewhat drier. If one of them is thriving, the other likely is less. Just wait and see.

I think it was a pole bean style. The odd part is it is very hot in New Jersey. I'm not sure why, but the snow peas here don't mind the heat. They continue to grow and let out a huge harvest and then replace them with another plant. I think 70-90 should be hot enough for those beans if it's enough for my tomatoes.

Yeah...
Lots of varieties of pole bean.

I usually grow "trail of tears" beans.

Not a fan of the ones commonly available at the local bulk seed place...
Check these:

If I was to guess, My guess would be that you've planted climbing lima beans... They can be slow to take off.

And if you'd like to get even more of an idea of how many varieties of beans there are, check out this site: https://www.abeancollectorswin...
