Hi, does anyone recognize this peony? I received as a division from someone who didn't know what cultivar. Or do you know of a peony society where I could inquire? Including lots of pics at various stages. Thank you!
After visiting the Nicholls arboretum last year for the APS Convention and seeing so many named cultivators with pink and red streaks, I've learned that there are too many similar cultivars to ID from just a photo.

Hi LG, thanks for responding, I sort of thought it would be a long shot, but figured I would give it a whirl! I'll enjoy them no matter what, and have given it my own nickname, 'Xavier', who is the guy I got the peony from.
Sally, that's a good way to track it. If you visit a public peony garden or grower's nursery and see something similar you can always buy one and plant it in your garden to see if it behaves like this one. Otherwise just enjoy your beautiful blooms.

The other information needed to identify a peony is the timing of the flowers. If you have Red Charm in your garden…….how close is the mystery one to Red Charm?
yes, good point about the timing. It's not Red Charm, and I don't have that one in my garden. I think I will just enjoy the peony and abandon my quest for i.d. unless I stumble upon the answer!
Assuming that your peony is one of the common cultivars, it may be Sherley Temple. It starts as blush and slowly fades to almost white. And it has those carmin strokes. Mine blooms rather late, one of last ones. Shirley Temple has been around for a long time. You could find it practically in all nursery, often unlabeled. Still, it is a beautiful, romantic classic. Hope you will enjoy it in years to come.

Thanks for weighing in, Jasmin. Yes, this is one of the later blooming ones. I looked at photos and I don't think it's Shirley Temple but? Maybe I'll run into Shirley Temple in a garden center and then I can compare for sure. May have to remain one of those unsolved garden mysteries. Happy gardening in Canada!!
