@hawkeye_daddy You might also want to look into "banker plants" which is something I recently came across as a way to control aphids. I haven't tried that method but it's used in greenhouses and out in the field as well. I think different plants are used for different insects etc.
@Terriea You might also want to try this experiment if you haven't already....cut the milkweed back just above the first or second set of leaves. The plants (should) regenerate fairly quickly with fresh growth. There will be less aphids and healthier plants/butterflies as a result. You may be surprised at how many more eggs/caterpillars you find, too! Bonus...no chemicals required!!
Just cut a few plants to start if you are nervous. I usually try to do this in early/mid-June but I've seen it done in July and still found an amazing amount of eggs and caterpillars! Even on tiny little shoots growing from plants that were cut off almost to the ground. 🦋
