American or Chinese bittersweet?
and will it fruit when it gets older?

Celastrus scandens, commonly: American bittersweet.

It's been blooming/fruiting for the last 2 years, but I remove the blooms to increase the rate of development, which slows appreciably once it's lifted from the ground and potted.

Here is another handful of bittersweet vine:

I started about 20 cuttings and am depending on the process of inosculation to eventually fuse the cuttings into a solid trunk. The image is 1 or 2 years old, so the composition has progressed quite a bit since that image was taken. Thanks for your interest.

I have been thinking on a bonsai ,not sure yet with my age
I do have some 50 year old houseplants ...maybe should have started earlier

I discovered bonsai and became infatuated with it at 30. It's a very rewarding pursuit, no matter how old you are. Two benefits of starting young are, you can put lots of trees in the ground and get a very good (and quick) start on their development; and, you get to build a longer relationship with your trees.
