I'm having a hard time choosing a favorite, I want them all, but I guess one that really stands out for me is F, just really love those pinkish hafts and beards on the dark violet flower.

Thanks everybody ! This cross was fun I kept all of them and lined them out they will get to stay for 2 years so I can see them in a big clump in a 2 year plant as things always look better once they have sat and have roots under them most of them had adequate buds and good branching so will see I really liked all the different shades of colors especially C it gave a grey/blue look up close in the field which I thought as different and had that beautiful form and of course B the light pink with the line and speckles shown with the pinks..

Lyn and Daphne On Star Turn I have plenty send me a note and remind me in the spring and Ill get you a piece of it Smiling

I think the only thing you really can tell about a seedling that first year is the color. In the second year sometimes they really show their stuff. At least that's the way it is here with our shorter growing seasons. Maybe where they have a longer season, the first year blooms might be better. Even named irises don't always look their best that first year after they are transplanted here. Often they don't have the best bloom count that first time blooming, but then in successive years they look much better.

Oh, I know exactly what you mean. I was just hoping that you had some tips to help ME get rid of things! D'Oh!

Otherwise, I just have to wait until I'm in a really foul mood... that seems to help.... "YOU! You ALWAYS annoy me with that muddy color/inconsistent flower form/small blooms/short stalk... OUT YOU GO!" Grumbling

Anyway, all beauties there Brad, and I hope you let us know when some of them will be for sale. Hopefully some of them will be tall ones! (I like them tall, with big flowers!)

Tom.. Our spring weather is tough on them the temp swings from 80's to 20's and back in April really screws up the branching and bud count and the late frosts you never know what you've got ..
They do not have that problem on the west coast a much longer growing season and almost a perfect climate for iris was amazed a couple years ago when I visited friends in Santa Cruz and found one of my seedlings that had always bloomed here consistently at Border Bearded height and there it was at my waist Rolling my eyes. this past season was about as perfect as it will get for Iowa and it still bloomed short.

Poly.. I keep way too many as you can see from the pictures in the other thread Im lucky enough to have the space to plant them its the weeding and maintaining them all is what gets me in trouble nodding we cleaned house this year and I cut back 50% much easier to keep up with..

Sherry.. Thank You ! It was quite the year for violets and lilacs seemed to have an abundance of good things in those colors bloom and realized I don't grow a lot of them anymore have been working on different projects but need to add more of them to the garden they really stand out .. I had another group bloom that attracted a lot of attention from visitors you can see what kind of an impact the lilacs/ violet shades have in the garden my eyes go right to those colors.

Brad, so true, it sure makes evaluating seedlings difficult here. I do notice that later bloomers do much better here than early bloomers, all the way around including bud count, branching and bloom form. The early ones seem to be often cold affected. That's another nice bunch of seedlings. Just Witchery seems to be a good parent.
