Yes, Sue, that's a Tiger Eye sumac, It likes to spread a little, but not too hard to control. I love the texture of the leaves.
Clint, Rooguchi doesn't climb well, I just weave the runners through the trellis a few times and then it seems to hold, but I need a taller trellis for sure.
Politicians are like diapers, they need to be changed often, and for the same reason.
Rooguchi took the first year or so to establish for me. With clematis, it is the first year, the sleep, the second year they creep and the third year they leap. I have found this to be true with growing clematis.
Clint - My Rooguchi is growing at the bottom of a privacy fence with metal fencing attached to the cross pieces of my privacy fence. I weave Rooguchi through the squares of the attached metal fencing. You can see the fencing on the right of my photo when enlarged.
I'm not sure Clint, but I don't think I spend more then 30 seconds pushing the vines through the trellis after it reaches about 3 ft in hight. It's not labor intensive.

I so agree with Tom. Mine pretty much grow up through on their own. There is the stray vine that needs to be tied up and pushed through, but that is true with most clematis.
