What really grabbed me on this last batch was this one, 120-60-A. Such VIBRANT colors! Lovey dubby

While some of the other ones may be advances in color combinations (I really don't know), I have never favored yellow/orange or yellow/red color combinations in daylilies, and that taste is holding in the irises, too. I guess they are too "hot" for me, or something... at least the yellow/red. Yellow/orange just always looks like mud to me.
Evaluating an iris seedling, hopefully for rebloom

That sure does have a brilliant background of yellow and the rust colored edge sets it off nicely. That beard sure is awesome too. Love the color of it.

One of the best formed seedlings from this past spring was this beauty from Keith's garden it was incredible and made me wish I had a garden full of them to work with in every color. The long term goal would be to have all kinds of Reds in different color shades with this form but nothing close yet. It's tough to find plants to work with to advance the form in Reds most of things introduced in recent years are no different then what was intro'd 15 years ago and mixing them together gives the same results and mixing them with the heavily ruffled whites/ creams you lose the colors so not a lot of progress on form but some pretty colors are popping up Smiling

I have been working back into Joe's Red's trying to pick up the Regimen lines they show the most promise for what I'm after there has been some recent things intro'd in Russia (check database for pics by clicking on regimen and then its kids in links at the bottom) from it that are the best I have seen with lace and ruffles Lovey dubby of course none available in the US to work with so my favorite available to use here is the Painter's intro's Cherokee Blaze and Hearts On Fire both are beautiful and good growers here..they are getting mixed with other reds and were working Plicata's into them hoping for something different Smiling here are some results.

Robin.. It grabbed my attention in bloom the ground color is very bright on it ... still relatively new but definitely saved love those bright colors.

Poly.. It was a complete surprise was expecting Plicata's and those 2 showed up very pretty up close in the garden and glowed in the sun.

Lyn..Thanks Smiling not enough for a big clump yet but hope we can get it to that point ..on the lost tags the guys in Oregon use paper tags for crosses probably unreadable from weather or insect damage to it Ive never had seeds in bee pods.

This whole group is the one that fascinates me:
20-75 (16-112c X Flash Mob)

B seems like it is really headed for red red - it stands out for that reason

For different reasons, because it is unique and mesmerizing D

And this is just really delicious

Brad, this thread of yours has completely re-arranged my thinking. Normally at this time of year I'm anxiously waiting to push the go button on the iris I'm buying for the year. As a result of your seedlings, I'm not going to buy any.

My context is that I have both limited space and a limited income. If I have to evict something, then I want it to be for Blueberry Shortcake and Tropical Vibes and others as yet unnamed that come down the line.

I'm planting around 200 seeds this year. If even half of them come up I'm going to have a hell of a time figuring out where to put them. But I've got the bug, now that I went through my first year and something actually came up. People have posted seedlings they created over the years and it's very exciting to see just everyday folks like us on the iris forum making seedlings, but by the same token, until yours I have never seen something from a member that would make me ask the question, "Should I get the Keppel or the Collins?" You have reached THE level and I am as thrilled as hell for you. It is always so inspiring to see genius emerge. Genius of course always requires a lot of work, as well as a gift and a passion. After some of your pix I was so excited I basically forgot to eat for a couple of days. This is really the greatest. Since you don't know me, my highest complement to a work of art (and I consider these iris works of art) is to be inspired to also make art.

The two intros of your I mentioned were a simple first generation cross, as are many of my favorite iris. Maybe I will get lucky. I'll never be able to introduce iris because I have no land to grow things out, but I can enjoy them if some turn out well and share them with my friends.

The truth is that every iris you have posted here is as nice as anything out there, and nicer than many. In my comments on this thread, I've focused on the unique ones, because you are doing commercial intros so you I presume want something different enough from what's already out there to inspire someone to buy it when they already have a bazillion iris. But I want to be sure you know that in all these pics I haven't seen a one that isn't first class (and am mindful of all the hundreds/thousands you have discarded over the years, as I see you've been at this for at least a decade.)

Below is an iris that I planted this year, so I have not seen it bloom, but because it is red I thought I'd bring it to your attention in case it interests you

I agree with everything,Lyn has said about your iris, and your endeavors, Brad.
It is a wonderful thing to have someone younger creating such beauties now and into the future. At least 2 of our great hybridizers are in there 80's .

I look forward to growing your's,Brad, in the years to come in my garden!

I prefer "A" of the FLASH MOB kids, and 19-103 (16-112C X 16-29B) A (that little bit of center line is like a beauty mark Lovey dubby ), of this last group of seedlings.

But then, keep in mind that my tastes are for clean, unmuddy colors... And to my eye, red and orange irises tend towards mud (as do lavender and some pink and purple daylilies). I'd rather have a clean colored burgundy iris than a muddy "red" one. Shrug!

I should say, Brad, that your Sculpted is a special achievement - beautiful and a powerful progenitor as well. Personally, I happen to be off pastels at the moment, I go through phases where different colors speak to me. At one time I was on a pink jag; I thought I didn't like variegatas and then saw Italian Master that got me going on loving them. I had no yellows because I didn't like yellow - now I have a bunch, I love them! I remember some years ago Kent made the comment that nothing was better than a neglecta (I said nothing of course, but I secretly wondered how anyone could think that) So here I am utterly obsessed with the picture of an iris I see everyday on this feed. I was going to buy it this year, and who knows, maybe it will be impossible to resist in the end. It is a neglecta, so go figure

I agree with Kent. Neglectas are my favorites - I never see one that I don't want (at one point I had seven). I am trying to decide between Private Lesson and Royal Heir, another neglecta introduced in 2022:

Both are stunning. And they are different so I guess you need both of them :)

Alas, I am also obsessed with this, which I could have bought when it was widely available but I was not on a neglecta jag so now it's hard to find

What started my neglecta obsession was this one, that I bought at the sale on impulse. My picture doesn't do justice to it's effect in the garden

Or maybe when I realized that this one that I love dearly is also a neglecta
