Or, maybe Commelina species? I think @purpleinopp/Tiffany is familiar with Tradescantia and Commelina, perhaps she will be able to help.

Thank you for the mention, Lin. : ) Sorry it took me a minute to get here.

Agree with everybody, something in Commelinaceae family. Betsy, could you add another pic with a scale object? Do you know anything about the conditions where it was growing? Are the edges of the leaves almost stiff enough to cause a "paper cut", or more pliable?

The lady gave me clippings and told me to put them in soil and let them root. I believe they are rooting.

I think I had that years ago. Wish I still did, it is cute.
Plant it and they will come.

Betsy, was it running wild in that person's yard? Except for the leaves being purple on the back, it looks like this:
Inch Plant (Callisia cordifolia)

I'm not sure it's a plant I've seen before.

I wonder if @Averixus might have some additional thoughts?

Sorry for my lateness! I'm pretty sure this plant is Inch Plant (Callisia repens). C. cordifolia is somewhat larger, and also a lot less common in cultivation (although C. repens often circulates mislabelled as C. cordifolia D'Oh! ).
