A friend gave me a division of a Chinese money plant about two years ago. It stayed a bit weak and chlorotic for the first year. I then upped the watering, started fertilizing it with the orchids, and moved it under the grow light.
Well, it's now doing well, has lots of pups, and is mostly not chlorotic. My problem is that it's getting too tall for the space I have!
I have two questions:
How tall do these get?
What happens if I top the main stem?
Thanks for any information Smiling .

Your Chinese Money Plant (Pilea peperomioides) is beautiful! I've never seen one taller than about 8 inches but they are said to grow to 12 inches in height. I have tried growing this plant so many times over the past 40+ years and I still can't seem to figure out how to keep one happy long-term. The last one I got March, 2019 and it did really well for a couple of years and then suddenly began to fail, it finally died this year. Sad

I've had mine since 2019. It got to about 12 inches and flopped over. I suspect crawling around on the ground is their normal growth habit. I elevated the pot so it could hang.

Yours looks great!

They can grow to over 4 ft. with support; I don't think they look good trained up so I prune the main stem back to 2 in. when they about a foot in height. The cut off top should be easy to root.
I have one big pot that has never been pruned and the stems snake all around the pot. It's weird looking, but people always marvel at it because they don't see them grown in that way.
I feed spring through fall, and then give them a cold dry rest in winter; if they get near-freezing temperatures they flower in spring.

Yours looks great Ms Doe! Mine wasn't that happy, I guess I gave it away Shrug! cause I don't have it and don't recall it dying.
Plant it and they will come.

Thanks everyone! I think I've just been lucky with this one.
Hortica, can you post us a picture of your big plant? Mine has been so upright, I'm having trouble picturing it growing as a ground cover. I understand I can cut the top off and probably root it, that's encouraging, as I have to keep it on the smaller side. What happens to the cut stump? Does it sprout or branch? Just sit there? Wither away?
And Lucy, I'd like to see your hanging plant.
Talavera pots are my favorites, this one is working well.
If it continues to do well, I expect to repot in Spring, trim off the top and remove (and share) a lot of the pups.
Thanks for the comments, I haven't been able to find much about this plant so it's very helpful to hear from others' experience, good or bad.

I was looking at my Pilea today... way back in the corner of my greenhouse under the Spanish moss. I was thinking I need to move that moss but can't get to it because I piled everything else in front of it for the winter.

I took photos when it was blooming a couple months ago. I'll find those tomorrow.

I don't have any current pics but these are from 3 years ago; it's bigger now.

Here is mine, buried in Spanish moss. It still needs fertilizer...

Thanks for the pictures! Thank You!
If mine continues to do well, looks like I'll have to be pretty aggressive with pruning and dividing to keep it in the space available. I'd just stop fertilizing, but it gets chlorotic in a hurry.
