@papa The Adoras did well in pots and in the ground. I planted a few behind the pond that disappeared for a time. We were gone and they didn't get watered. Those came back as soon as we got some rain storms. I think the ones in large pots with other plants did best.

Great growing Charles. I don't know if Portora is sterile. That's a pretty cool pic of the double stem. I had a pretty good results with my Calidora seeds, 25 out of 28 germinated and most survived that winter. I still have a few but nothing special.

I'm new to this and am hoping for some guidance before buying elephant ears this spring . . . yes, actually trying to plan ahead. :>)

With the available space, I'm going to have to overwinter my plants as dry dormant bulbs and as I understand it, some varieties make better/firmer/less likely to dry up bulbs for this than others. Think I've heard that Black Magic isn't good for this, but the regular esculenta is very good. Can anyone provide guidance on overwintering dry bulbs of: Black Stem, Diamond Head, Black Coral, Mojito, White Lava, Hilo Beauty, Kona Coffee or Antig. Illustris?

Thank you!

Welcome! Welcome! Welcome!
I wintered my White Lava as a bulb last year. It did dry out quite a bit, but once in the pot and regular watering, it came back just fine. This year, we just brought all of the pots in.

Rick,

Thanks for that info. And was this a large or small White Lava? The larger bulbs tend to dry out less, right?

They were rather small. I'm not sure how much they grew over the summer as we just brought the pot into the house. They're still pushing up new leaves.

I would imagine that larger bulbs dry out less because they're a more solid mass.

I can see why! Stunning. Drooling

Is that Elepaio?

I have been on the fence between getting Elepaio or Hilo Beauty (are they calling this a caladium now??) but I think the answer is pretty clear. Both! Hilarious!

Hello guys
Returning from my forum winter hibernation Green Grin!

Update:
Alocasia macrorhiza completely gone, it started to rot , i was able to save a piece and let it sprout but in the end it started to rot too :(

Alocasia odora and portora
These two are doing great currently, since i don't have much space overwinter for them , friends of my family were so nice to overwinter them for us.
I visited the plants today and they look stunning.
They gained so much size that its scary

Odora

I only have one container of them, and surprisingly doing well even if we suddenly dip into cold temps like 58F to 65F today and then sudden 90F++ the following weekend next. Crazy weather!

Just glad to see new leaf growth coming up, so stepping up watering too, it has been too windy here and we have zero rainfall so just dry as rock.

I have far less than I used to have. I am noticing some tiny ones coming up in pots where they weren't planted by me. Either the squirrels did it, or I combined old potting soil into new soil. Not sure what the are yet.

I'm still hanging around when I get a chance. Lost a lot of plants this year. I broke my leg in December and couldn't get them all put up for winter. And we had a very cold winter. This will be a regrouping season for me.I hope all you guys are doing well.
