A red wing black bird? Wow!! They are so skittish in the marsh. LOL @ her being disappointed. I am sure she was! I know I was yesterday when Johnny had that Scrub Jay land on him. I had been shhhhing him the whole time. The minute I turn my back to shoot something, he is whispering for me to turn around. And there was that Jay, just as happy as could be, on his head. LOL. go figure....
Ran out to the refuge to kill some cabin fever. Been rainin for the last day and a half. I'm glad our cameras are weather sealed. Don't know why, but I watched the Pelicans forever. They have always been a favorite of mine. I love the Tri-Colored Heron too though. I think we will all be glad to see the sun when it returns though.
Those are beauty photos, Suz! Maybe because the birds were nesting around the zoo, they were probably very used to a lot of people wandering around. Probably not something your marsh birds would have an opportunity to get used.
Finally got a little bit of sunshine late this afternoon; ran out to the refuge before it got too dark. The first one is a Juvenile Roseate Spoonbill. You may notice it's head is fully feathered, the coloring is a little lighter, (Well, a lot lighter) The second one is an adult. Male or female are hard to tell; I couldn't see it's beak good enough to tell, but without the black ridges, I'm going to call her a female.
The robins have been hanging out in the wooded lot behind our house for the last couple days. I'm used to seeing one run around the yard, not find anything of interest, and move on. But the Carolina cherry laurels that line our fence are full of berries at the moment and apparently they like them. I've never seen them eat the berries before so I find it interesting. They sure like to take baths in the bird bath too.
I have two northern flickers visiting the feeders this year. Finally caught some photos, and one showing a glimpse of those beautiful red tail base feathers! β€οΈ

I'm jealous! I wish they would come to my feeder.

Web, in years past their single visits have been few and far between, now all of a sudden they're here daily. Who knows why? So don't give up hope! Conversely, the usual robins never showed up. They usually arrive en masse in winter. Spotted only one, one day.
Thanks for the !
I'd be interested to know how many of you folks out there lost internet and cell phone service today. Mine was out most of the day, but now it's back and working fine. Just wanted to know if it affected any you all.
