I was surprised no one had posted it earlier Smiling Great image and glad to see someone else likes it, too! Always a good performer here. Mount Herman Intrigue is really nice. Arrived as a "tet" bonus plant and has quickly become one of my favorite dips!

Carpenter's "To God Be The Glory" bloomed this year for the first time on June 4, about 9"! It is beautiful each time, at 8"+. My favorite is "Cosmic Kaleidoscope," but "Texas Kaleidoscope," "Home Run King," "Exotic Pattern," "Fancy Face," "Super Fancy Face," and "Kansas Kitten" are all winners, too! We are destined to see more diploids at our garden, I am afraid. We have pictures, but Doris is still outside, and it would take forever for me to find those pictures.

Aztec Beauty has been on my long list for awhile and it sure is pretty. Worth It all is another one that intriques me. I've had Diamond Dusted Borders and Kansas Kitten, but during a surprise attack of rust last year, I had to pitch them to keep the infection contained. For the yellow fans I like All in Ruffles. It rusted a bit last year too, but only lightly and is so far fine this year after a normal winter's dormancy. If you like ruffly yellows this is a good one to try:....Maryl

An AHS Awards update....

In 2013 five cultivars hybridized by Jack Carpenter received recognition from the AHS garden judges.

Texas Kaleidoscope (2001) received one of the twelve 2013 Awards of Merit and will be placed on the Awards and Honors ballot in two years where it will compete with other eligible cultivars for the Stout Silver Medal.

Feliz Navidad ( 2006), a bright red with an orange watermark was a runner up for a 2013 Award of Merit.

Kaleidoscopic Intrigue (2009), one of Jack's amazing patterned daylilies, received a 2013 Honorable Mention and is on it's way upward to compete for an Award of Merit three years from now.

One of my favorites, Kansas Kitten (2002), was 2nd runner up for the Don C. Stevens Award. The Don C. Stevens Award is given annually to the best boldly eyed or banded cultivar judged by the garden judges.

A previous Honorable Mention winner, Cosmic Kaleidoscope (2006) was recognized as the 1st runner up to the winner, Rose F. Kennedy (Doorakian 2007), of the R.W. Munson JR. Award for best distinctly patterned daylily.

Well deserved!

I love Carpenter daylilies and bought 4 right from their website for this spring from Mark Carpenter. One of my favorite daylilies is Mark Alan Carpenter and I have over 550. I have 20 Carpenter daylilies. They don't sell Mark Alan Carpenter on the website any longer and I got mine from the DA and I highly recommend it. I don't know why or how, but they do great here in 5A!

This is my picture:

@Char:
You said, " It must have been so exciting to present him with the Stout Medal."

Why yes, it was! It was back in 2008, and my first year as AHS Awards Chair. I was actually a nervous wreck, prior to the event, because of the behind the scenes drama. You see, Jack wasn't much for meetings and he didn't plan to go to the convention. Jacks nephew Mark worked with me behind the scenes (the convention that year was luckily in Houston or it wouldn't have worked). We plotted like fiends to get him to that awards banquet. And I was so happy to see Jack and Mark sitting at a table near the front of the room that night, Jack in an uncharacteristic dress shirt and tie! Yes, he got a standing ovation. Worth it!

I realize this is an older thread that has been revived, but I have one that I don't think has been mentioned yet. It is the beautiful Banana Cream Beauty.

I love it when old threads like this get revived! It gives me a chance to look at what everyone has posted again and in this case, a chance to see if I have added any other Jack Carpenter daylilies to my garden. I have added one within the last two years and can't wait to see it this year since I know it will be taller and thicker. Such a lovely red:

It is Finished
