I have more, but they are only 1 year in my garden. The only 1 that has not made it in my garden is Red Eyed Fantasy.

Jack Carpenter has had a HUGE influence on modern daylilies. I have many of his, so I will show only the ones that I like the most. Almost all of his are vigorous and hardy. The only ones that I have lost over the years is How Beautiful Heaven Must Be and Elsie Spalding Memorial. HBHMB did not make it past the first Winter--and that Winter was not that bad. Elsie made it a couple years but declined quickly. All else has done well---and most are still here.

Such beauties, Greg! One of my very favorite dayliliesis Aztec Beauty and your picture does it great justice showing many of the variations of color it can produce. I love it's flat face!

I finally got two fans of To God Be The Glory last fall, with two more coming this week. I hope to get blooms this spring. It is one of my favorite Carpenter plants, but very hard to find.

It's interesting how many of those Carpenters I've lost since posting photos in 2013. Bad winters killed Happy Charmer, Bettie Louise Prince, Transcendent Love and Warrior Victorious. Winters with zero temperatures knocked back clumps of Texas Blue Eyes and Divinely Blessed. Levi Davis hangs in there, but doesn't bloom after bad winters. Patsy Carpenter died back to one fan after a bad winter, and hasn't bloomed or multiplied in three years.

One of my favorite reds is Jack's Fire On The Mountain. I grow this in both MI and TX [along with Orchid Elegance].

I just added my first two Carpenter plants last fall. We've been under drought conditions most of that time so it's a tough test.
Mt. Herman intrigue hasn't bloomed, willing to give it more time due to conditions.

Treasure of the southwest put on a few blooms in the same circumstances. Absolutely love what I've seen so far and can't wait to see what it does once it's better established.

That's, very pretty Will, I love the color.

@OtherUncleWill in the recent past ( couple years ?) we covered a lot of hybridizers.
I have several of Mr Carpenter's daylilies that does well here.

Happened to to be thinking back to my last DL show (remember those?) and one of them really stuck in my mind. So I looked it up in the database again tonight. Lo and behold Jack's name popped up.


It didn't win the show, but I can't remember those that did.

Will, giant of the mouth is beautiful. More I see of jack carpenter the more I want them.

I was wondering if anyone had a picture of BOLD EXPRESSIONS that is Jack's? There isn't one in our database or the AHS.
His GIANT ON THE MOUNTIAN is a favorite of mine still.

For the record, I noticed a couple of older posts of 'Texas Beautiful Bouquet': This daylily was registered by Jack's hybridizing companion Josie Bomar [1935-2014]. There is a tribute to her on the Region 6 website history tab.

Quite some years back, I was lucky enough to go to his garden with a large group of daylily enthusiasts and acquired 5 seedlings. It would have been more, but he was so busy helping all the buyers that these was all I could get my grubby little hands on. I still have these four:
- a great plant, much admired here in a clump



Pat Cochenour was on that trip, where she must have gotten this one. She gave me a piece saying it would cross with dips or tets but I've never had much luck with it.
