Oh, this thread really had me laughing at myself. Thank you !

My garden says, "She's too dumb at accept 'You can't do that here' for an answer.

When I bought my house everything was covered with snow. I thought the back yard was all lawn. Nah ! When I came up to take possession of the property after escrow closed, this is what I saw:

Thumb of 2014-05-20/RoseBlush1/1094c2

The soil in my primary planting area was DEAD !!! Then I was gifted with over 100 roses in small bands as a housewarming gift. I was working on the deferred maintenance on the house and didn't have the funds to import soil.

My garden is still a garden-becoming. I am too dumb to quit.

This is what I saw today:

I'm working on it ... Hilarious!

Thank you ... Smiling Smiling

I still have plenty of novice mistakes to fix. This was my first in ground garden.

The soil you see in front of the rocks in the second photo is the native soil. It still doesn't grow a decent crop of weeds.

I am learning a lot on ATP, so going forward should be easier.

I know, I should have put my paths in first, but I had all of those roses to plant ... argggh

Smiles,
Lyn

My garden is saying I made a mistake. My story is I started with a blank slate. The house was owned by the original owners they had aged and the home became to big for them and the children sold it as is....... A Blank slate of 4 acres I was ready to have lots of fun.

I am learning that rich soil, lack of tree roots and the amount of rain we have had the last 2 years make plants grow at warp speed. I was use to planting and nothing really getting big for 8 yrs.

I am not a new gardener but I have gardened in shade and tree roots for 30 yrs. I never had much sun at my other property. I feel like a new gardener.

Because I had Hostas at my old house I started with the shade garden.

Before

Hostas garden first year

After.....I did not add any plants they never grew this big or this fast at my old house. My new area is fertile soil because the area was years of leaf mold.

I have added some hardscape but I have to do some dividing and space the plants out. They are fighting each other for space.

I will post later my front. Another big mistake of over crowding.
