Such a pretty bloom and I agree that it is a shame it isn't taller. At 18" with a 5" bloom, the proportions are off for my taste.

My first daylily to open for this season, Moonlit Masquerade. Lots of nice tall, sturdy scapes, and big flowers for only it's second year growing here.

@DeweyRooter I've had this cultivar before, and it was very rusty for me, too but I have treated it this spring with Actinovate, a douse as well as spraying and have no rust, zero! So far. Just love that Smiling Cobra and it would be a shame to ditch it without trying to treat it first, don't you think?

Got it off Amazon, larger amount is less expensive for me as I use it on my orchids, canna, figs and plumeria too. But you can get a small amount that will last you through the summer.

Thanks, Elaine, but I don't use any fungicides. I appreciate your interest, though.

Appreciate your diligence in avoiding chemicals. Some of those fungicides like Thiomyl are really awful for people and animals.

But just FYI Actinovate is an organic- approved biologic that is safe to use on edibles right up to day of harvest. That's the only reason I use it, down here in Florida, the Capital of Fungus.

Yes, it looks pretty cool. I tip my hat to you.
It is a bacterium. it must gobble up the fungus somehow, or maybe poison them. Thumbs up Shrug!

I did not see anything on the label saying it worked against rust. Has anyone had a successful full season using Actinovate on rust? I had much rather use that than Azoxystrobin like I am using now.

I did have a few registered plants blooming this morning.
'Kiss of Paradise': Way down in the foliage this year due to my spraying mishap of last year.

'Christmas Cove': This plant is out of Main by Barth-N., it has really done well for me. Beautiful bloom and foliage, and has formed very attractive clumps.

'Rings of Triton': Also affected by my spraying mishap, but is recovering, surprised the bloom looks so large, but the fans are definitely stunted.

'Life is a Highway': Beautiful bloom this morning.

'Darth Ciduous': I seem to like this one more each day.

Larry, I've only had two highly rust-resistant varieties of daylilies lately so until I got this 'Moonlit Masquerade' I haven't been using the Actinovate on the daylilies until this month.

I read some research on daylily rust a while back and it only happens in a certain range of temperatures. (trying to find that article to give you a link) So here, it's only the right temperatures for rust in spring and fall. Once it's getting into the 90's every day we get no more rust.

So, I started the Actinovate treatment on the daylilies about a month ago when it really started warming up, and will suspend spraying/dousing it probably in June. Then start re-applying in September when the 80's are our highs again.

I still use it on the orchids and my two rose bushes through the summer as it's effective at preventing black spot diseases and other woes on them. But the fig rust, plumeria rust, canna and the daylily rust all seem to like the more moderate temperatures.

As I said above *so far* it seems to be working well. The foliage is absolutely clean.
