Hi Ann welcome. Neoregelias are easy to care for. Keep warm in bright light...they get their best color in bright light. Don;t water the soil. Put fresh water in the cup (the rosette where all the leaves meet on top) and let in run over into the soil below. Too much water in a potted plant may rot it. If it's warm enough it would appreciate being out on the porch. We have a dedicated Bromeliad forum here if you'd like to take a look. And a pretty much resident expert, @ScotTi

Welcome Ann and welcome to the Neoregelia plant world.
As Gina stated Neoregelias need bright natural light to bring on their vibrant foliage coloration. Keep the central cup full of water. Best to use purified or spring water or collected rain water. The soil should be kept on the dry side. Your Neoregelia will enjoy the great outdoors in your warm months in a bright location out of direct sun.
Post a picture of your gifted Neoregelia.
How large is the pot that it is currently growing in?
