This plant was growing in my bedding when I bought the house. I have tried to identify it with plant id apps but never find a good match. The one that comes up the most is "willow-leaf sunflower" and it is definitely not that. It had a woody stem that is very flexible. The very narrow leaves grow in bundles like some pine needles but they are not needles. Right now (early May) there are clusters of tiny white 5-petaled flowers with orange horn-like growths. It is unfortunate that only one photo is allowed to be uploaded.

I think that is an Alder Buckthorn, a subspecies called Asplenium / fern leaves - Alder Buckthorn
Frangula alnus subsp. alnus 'Aspleniifolia'

@ tofitropic -- The photo one the page that you link to does resemble my plant but when I googled alder buckthorn I found something completely different and definitely not my plant. I think there is an error in the Plant Database (???)

No error. Alder buckthorn is just a common name for that particular genus and species, Frangula alnus.
https://garden.org/plants/sear...

If you click on the link Tofi provided, it gives you a variety of Alder buckthorn that matches your photos along with numerous member submitted photos.
Google Frangula alnus subsp. alnus 'Aspleniifolia' or even Frangula alnus 'Aspleniifolia' and you will find other online images.

Yes Exactly. as @Calif_Sue explained

In plant world many times you have to be specific, as there are tremendous variety on various species especially garden plants. The common alder buckthorn has "common leaves", but the variety 'Aspleniifolia' has specifically Asplenium-leaved feature which looks fern-like, hence that varietal name, completely different to the common one.
The Plant Database in this web site is very great if you are a gardener, scientist or just a someone who have interest in plant, you can also contribute by input your photo to help other in the future.

Thank you everybody for your patience. I agree that my plant is very likely the Frangula alnus subsp. alnus 'Aspleniifolia'. I have never seen any berries on it, but this is also the first year that I noticed the flowers, so I am going to watch and see if the berries appear this year too. Thank you!
