I think the tall plants in the back of Tarev's beautiful pond are the large arrowhead. They look just like the ones I have if they had more room to grow. It is a gorgeous pond Tarev, so nice that you got to visit it.

I wish I could help you with the ipad and pictures Bert, I will try it later tonight with my ipad as I have not tried before. Maybe we can figure it out.

Cameron, if you let the lotus pot slowly dry out, the tubers will go into hibernation and you can keep them warm and dark over the winter. I'm not positive about the over winter part but I have let mine dry out and then kept them for a month or so before replanting them so I think it would work. Don't let them freeze or even get really cold but dry will keep them dormant. They are native to an area with a wet and dry season and they wait for the rains to grow again.

Thanks Jonna for Iding the tall plants. I didn't know arrowheads got that tall. Thanks for the tip about overwintering too. The shed I was going to put them in is unheated so I'm glad you told me that. Thumbs up

I wish I could find a big bath tub for all the lotus seedlings lol. I'm really surprised your seeds haven't produced any growth. With heat and light they should have sprouted by now. Sad

Anyone know anything about Perry's Water Gardens in NC? I'm picking up several lotus tubers from them the end of March.

Hi, does anyone know of a source to buy hardy lotus for zone 8a (zone 7 to be safe as we have weird 100 year old winter storms every year recently). Trades are also welcome (I've water lilies, bamboo, figs, day lilies, first born etc. whatever to score the lotus Rolling my eyes.
Thanks.

Many lotus are quite hardy. I bought one from Bergen Water Gardens and they are located in upstate NY. I ordered them last fall before they were out of stock and it was delivered in February.

Wow this is an oldie but goodie thread. I just 'harvested' some Lotus from an abandoned pond in my neighbor's yard [he moved and is selling]. I'm repotting them into large planters today, hope they survive. Would potting soil be better than topsoil?

Noooooo, potting soil is mostly peat or coir and perlite and it floats. You want to use the heaviest, muckiest dirt you can find. As long as no chemicals have been used you can just dig some soil from your property and use that. Silt is the best if you have access to any.

Wow, just noticed this today, how did i miss it? I thought Lotus flowers were at water level, not feet above the water.
