The reason for the pots, guys, is that places like Gilbert Wild are not growers. They buy from wholesalers, and the wholesalers, like Walters Gardens have gone to selling potted iris. That's the reason for limited choices, also, the wholesalers normally only carry 20 or so. I have purchased them this way for the nursery, and personally I like them, great root systems. Mostly old standbys.

But it's still best to buy from the grower

Ah -- thank you Polly. That makes sense. I see potted Irises available for sale at my local nurseries, and always wondered if they buy rhizomes and pot them up themselves. And yes -- you don't find many new cultivars potted up and ready to go.

I prefer to buy from growers -- but in this case, I could not find the cultivar I wanted anywhere else. I did find it on Ebay, but didn't want to get in a bidding war over it. So Gilbert Wild solved the problem -- I got the Iris I wanted at the price I wanted -- but as usual, ended up buying a few more to spread the shipping expense over several Irises instead of one. What's a person to do? Whistling Hilarious!

Yes, Thanks, Polly. I wish I could remember what I read about Wild's buying out that iris grower! I SEEM to remember that I sent for some info on which cultivars this little grower had, and received notice that they had sold all their stock, and the facility ,to Wild's Confused . I believe they were located in Mo., but I can't remember their name/business. But , I have trouble with my OWN name ,anymore! Of all the things I've lost...I miss my mind , most of all ! Jo Ann, I haven't seen you on here in a while, Good to see you back! I just got my Blue J iris order. Just ordered 3 Nebraska Big Red, they sent them and Wine Time for a bonus. They are really nice big and healthy rhizomes. I used to have Wine time, but culled it out, not I have to decide if I plant it or give it away.

I think I need professional help! I "re-uped" my AIS membership this spring, and just received a "voucher", good for $25 worth of iris, at selected growers. So, naturally, so as not to waste it, Whistling I ordered another batch of iris! You had to spend $50, in order to get the $25. I wasn't aware the AIS had this program, so I guess that proves I should read things a little closer ! Confused .I also found one that was on my "test plant" list, for Mom's NOIDS, and even though it is from some off-the-wall place in the Netherlands, I just had to order it! Every instinct tells me I'll be disappointed, but I did it anyway. I mean, $4.95, postage paid, from the Netherlands ! It must be the size of a pea! Rolling on the floor laughing ...Arlyn
