Great podcast, loved that y'all talked about honey! we harvested two bars from our top bar hive about three weeks ago (took a video/photos, it is on my blog if anyone wants to dig around there). We weren't expecting to get any this season as we just installed our bees in April but they have been building comb like crazy! The bees have been testy lately with the heat and of course we found hive beetles (booo!) so we'll be keeping an eye on that.

I replaced a few of my tomatoes with new ones in hopes of fall tomatoes and hopes of nursing what I've got growing still along through the end of summer. we'll see.

You can also cut your existing tomatoes all the way down to the ground and let them come back with new growth. That will work, too.

How much honey did you get from each bar?

I think we got nearly 2.5 quarts. Kept a quart for us and then divvied up pints for family.

Love the podcasts, such great variety in topics!

Trisha, would you by chance have the flowers your talked about drying listed somewhere? As a newbie to flower growing I am not familiar with several you referenced.

Hi Kathy,

Here's the list that I jotted down in my notes:

Annuals (which often tend to be easier:) Nigella (love in a mist), statice, strawflower, gomphrena, celocia

Perennials: hydrangea, yarrow, lavender, roses, salvia (especially the deciduous types like Salvia Victoria), Buddleia,

I probably rattled more off the cuff on the podcast, but I'm not sure.

At the top of the page is a link called "database"- you can enter in any plant in the search box there and get all of the information you could want! Thumbs up

Thank you!

Enjoyed the video as well, had never heard of that for of building beds. I'm going to construct one this fall and use it for fall squash planting next year.

I truly enjoy the podcast and all that you and Dave share via the site as well.
