Thumbs up I agree Hurray! I tip my hat to you. Whistling
Clint, they do not grow here either. So I am always happy to find a stand in. This year I got some Baptisia like Carolina Moon and Purple Smoke.
I did order two Foxglove, the Dalmatian Purple and the Dalmatian Cream, both were 2.49 @ SRG.. Whoohoo!

That's good. I ordered some seeds. These are the ones I ordered:

FOXGLOVE, CAMELOT MIX - 25 PELLETED SEEDS
FOXGLOVE, LARGE YELLOW - 250 SEEDS
FOXGLOVE, POLKADOT PRINCESS HYBRID - 25 PELLETED SEEDS
FOXGLOVE, STRAWBERRY - 300 SEEDS

I'll plant these and get them going. In this area, they grow all winter. They seem to stay green throughout our winters just like Hollyhocks do.

I read through this thread for the foxglove info, but then was rather surprised at the animal toxicity issue. All my dog ever eats is grass, do other dogs regularly snack on things that may be toxic to them? I've just never given that much thought.

Yes, I was surprised too and also a little scared. But I will keep the seeds and plants outside, also I have no pets. I did read that each plant can put off a million seeds, so they could end up in the grass and everywhere so if the dogs eat grass like most dogs do then they could digest some seeds. Maybe not a good idea for people with pets.
I am more worried after reading the article again because it might be invasive here and a million seeds would be hard to deal with. Also if I casually pull a weed not knowing it is a foxglove seedling I could break out in hives. I am really wondering if this plant is even worth it, I have never seen them around here so maybe there is a good reason for that. I will check with the cooperative extension first.

They are worth it. They are beautiful. All you have to do is cut the stalks when the blooms dry up. That's what I did, and I never had any issues.

Oh, jeepers. I got one out there now that I forgot about and I never did anything with it. I wonder where all one million of those seeds are now! Whistling

We have a nice native foxglove, and I've gathered seed and tossed it around with not much results. I've never had any cultivated foxgloves reseed themselves at all, and I usually let everything go to seed (for lack of attention rather than purposefully). So, I don't think of it as a rampant re-seeder (at least for my area). I've never had any problem with handling the plant or seed, but again, I rarely give much thought to that - seems there are all sorts of plants that come with warnings that I ignore.

I think the warnings are mostly hype. It's not like the seeds would be something someone would eat. They literally are like dust. They probably just blow away when they fall. I have grown them many times and never had any problems at all. My parents have always had dogs, and I have never seen a dog eat one or get sick from them.

I agree Clint. I've read lots of warnings about handling various plants, which rarely bother me in the least. I do understand that others are more prone to reactions due to their personal body chemistry, and it is good to know which plants might trigger that. If I actively avoided any plant with a potential danger to humans/animals, I fear my yard would look pretty skimpy. Even our native rhododendron (found in virtually every park and yard in the PNW) are toxic to cows or dogs or something. Be knowledgeable, but also use your common sense.

I do grow some of these , just not in my backyard where my dog is. Like Clint said with the Foxglove I do not let it go to seed.

Interesting list, I pretty much have some of everything listed and have always had loose dogs with no known problems. Good to be aware of, though. Thanks for the link.
