Welcome, cd. That's a pretty one, I'm sure someone will chime in soon.

Thanks. I found a picture that kind of matches it called Big Heart Throb.

I wrote this to someone else looking for a daylily ID "With over 73,000 registered daylilies, (and an untold number of seedlings), unless it has an extremely unique feature, it's almost impossible to ID a daylily. We all seem to have a multitude of unknowns in our gardens and love them all the same!"

This one is in a park in the center of our city. They were given to the us by a company that was changing their landscaping. No one there can remember what it is called. A woman passing through town called and asked for the name because she wants to plant some at her home. Thanks for the help.

If you would like to proactively respond to the woman, I'd just tell her what you told us (an unknown named gift) and give her the information you have been able to round up yourself regarding similar looking daylilies. Perhaps refer her to ATG to explore the daylily database for herself. If she is local and your clumps are large enough, perhaps offer to chunk her off some this fall or spring.

When I am unable to positively ID a plant, I usually just give it my own name...being careful not to claim it as a named cultivar on any garden site, just for my own pleasure. That really is a handsome and vibrant daylily.

It looks very similar to Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Red Grace')

If you do an on-line search for 'daylily red' and then look at the images only, you'll see a lot of similar lilies - some are named cultivars, others not.
