My 'Shampoo' ginger has the same characteristics. It is said that the liquid from their cones make a great hair conditioner. You would have thought that they would have been named 'Conditioner' rather than 'Shampoo' ginger. LOL

I tried using it as a shampoo in my outside shower one year, it didn't lather but my hair seemed to like it and it smelled a lot better than chlorine from the pool

I have never tried to use it as a hair conditioner, chicken I guess. Perhaps this year I will give it a try. All I have to lose is my hair! Ken

My shampoo ginger is a sort of pale reddish brown that gets redder as it ripens but never becomes a true red. Yesterday I saw one for sale that was a clear, solid red, no shadings. It was beautiful. I don't have room for another one, they are big plants and they spread rapidly here. I was tempted though, it was a beauty.

None of my "cones" have come up yet, but if I remember correctly, mine are colored about the same.
