I'm guessing the spider is the clue. Looks like a spider's nest to me.

You are right, Carol! Thumbs up

We saw a lot of tiny spiders in a web at the identical spot a couple of weeks ago without this contraption, so I thought it was maybe something else....

Nice, Ted. I do love those pineapple lilies, but they fizzle out for me. They need a dry period between bloom cycles, and it's just not dry enough here in the summer.

They bloom in spring, then they rot and are never seen again. Sad

Wow, that's late for an azalea to bloom isn't it? Is this a second flush?

Mine usually bloom in Feb. or March as soon as it's warm, then they sometimes re-bloom in the fall.

I have no clue Hilarious!
I have had this azalea for a number of years and a much smaller pink one bought recently. I bought them both the same way. At the local Armstrong nursery, saw it, loved it, bought it, got it home and said "now what!" Confused Stuck it where it gets morning light and it seems to love it. Now getting in the way of some of my hanging orchids, but I'm afraid to move it!
It usually blooms in the spring really full. Now it has decided to send more blooms out. OK by me

I was rummaging through the groundcover and found this nice little Tillandsia blooming. Big old faithful broms also in full bloom. Each flower is the size of my fist!

Yesterday we drove out to our place in Pennsy to look at the Spiranthes cernua ( a charming small Orchid), which are now in full bloom. We were not disappointed, we encountered nice stands on several locations.
First we stopped to check the embankment on rt 380 towards Scranton
Thumb of 2013-09-15/Ursula/e37814
Attempting to estimate, the slope is densely packed with at least a 1000 plants in bloom!

Bidens cernua was in full bloom around the pond, unfortunately it started to rain which was not in the forecast. Not nice weather at all. The edge of the pond had ca 20 plants/Spiranthes, spaced along the edge. Didn't get a good picture due the drizzle. It looked and felt a lot like Fall.

Grabbed a rain-cape and walked around a bit - the neighbors cows came close to the fence to inspect us.

The neighbor's hill had a few really nice plants. This area had been totally bulldozed over and planed last year, so we were not sure we would see any Spiranthes here this year already, so this was good to see.

Walking up the dirt road, we stopped to marvel over a couple of small Spiranthes stands, 6 plants there and a few a couple of yards further, right at the edge of the road.

A piece had broken off, so I took a couple of close ups out of my hand. And the scent of these is always lovely - strongly Anise scented. A couple of years ago, we had stopped around sundown at the slope on Rt 380 in bloom, the whole hill smelled of Anise, really nice!
Thumb of 2013-09-15/Ursula/1bb7f8
The neighbor's hill always has nice Lichen to enjoy. These are different species of Cladonias.

In the meanwhile, the drizzle had stopped, a bit of blue sky and the temperature started to drop, Summer was over in NE Pennsy....Fall is nice too!
Parting shot - another picture towards our place. The neighbor's barn is visible here.

Talk about 'capturing the moment' Ursula. Lovely. The Spiranthes look like they're made of glass, or sugar crystals in the close-up shot.

My gangly 9ft. tall brug is almost finished blooming, but it keeps blowing over and dipping its branches in the pool. Still, I sure enjoy the perfume at night, and the sight of the pretty flowers out my bedroom window in the mornings.

Pretty little Orchids, aren't they? Smiling
Right now a have a few Spiranthes odorata spiking in my backyard here in Fair Lawn. Come to think of it, I better cage them today, or they will be critter-dinner.

Your sparkling clean greenhouse inspired me, Ursula. All the orchids are in the garden today! Hurray! Hurray! I hired my pool guy to power wash the whole cage inside and out. It is SO clean! (started to return the Vandas, then remembered to take pictures)

Something new blooming this morning, Peruvian daffodils. They are very fleeting, but so pretty and fragrant too. I have about a dozen plants in this bed, but only this one ever blooms. Shrug!

Tomorrow, Ursula. I waited until it dried from the power-wash then sprayed the whole area with Physan. I had algae growing on the pavers, the screening and even on the aluminum frame. So, my nice pool guy is coming back to help me replace everything. Tonight my back and my feet are aching from all the work. My greatest hope is that I zapped most of the black rot spores that were floating around in there. Still a spot or two showing up here and there.

Jim, I normally don't give garden space to bulbs that bloom once a year for 4 days, but those were a gift from a fellow MG and they were gorgeous big bulbs. Each year I'm afraid I'll be away, or just not walk by when they are in bloom and I'll miss them entirely. This year at least there seems to be a succession of buds so they may last a bit longer. If you remind me, I'll give you a few next time I see you.

Heh, I sure could use a nice Pool guy like that! Thumbs up
I went through 3 big size boxes of Swiffer Wet Floor Cleaners to scrub everything ( Glass on the inside and racks), those work really well - and followed by Windex polish on the glass. I didn't need to do the outside yet, I had the whole thing re-glazed and cleaned a couple of years ago, the fellow did a great job.

We enjoyed some gorgeous weather at our place in Pennsy this weekend. Took some walks and looked around. By evening a balloon drifted over our house. I had a pretty good idea where it was landing, next to our favorite ice cream place/Manning Farms.
The Poconos are already pretty much at peak fall colors. I took some pictures in the hope that you/those without ( color-) changing seasons might enjoy the show as much as we did.
